Corsair Obsidian 1000D Build Log/How to Guide

Greetings fellow RGBz Addicts :D:

 

Still waiting on a few parts, but for now I have enough to begin.

 

Spec list so far is.

 

  1. Corsair Obsidian 1000d with dual Hydro X Loops
  2. Asus ROG Maximus XI Formula
  3. Intel i7 8700k
  4. Corsair H115i Platinum
  5. Corsair MP500 M.2 (240gb for system)
  6. Corsair Dominator RGB Pro 32gb
  7. Corsair Commander Pro x1
  8. Corsair LL120mm Fans x 32
  9. Corsair RM1000i
  10. Corsair PSU Premium Braided Cable Kit in Black
  11. EVGA GTX 1080 SC

 

For now this build will be cooled using the Corsair H115i Platinum, up in the top of the case.

 

My plan is to get the main system up and running and looking good, and then add in the ITX system. Same again, get it up and running and looking good (undecided on second system specs yet).

 

Until the 2nd system is gathered all together, I will vertical mount the main systems GPU, so you guys get to see how it all fits together, along with any pitfalls it may create.

 

Once the second system is fitted I will then be heading towards a full Custom loop on both systems. It will be my first Custom loop, so you guys that are as wary as I am, of those first steps......... Please follow the adventure :).

My next post in this thread will be the case itself, what it contains, and what it is supplied with. Anyone with an interest in the case and needs information, please do ask. I will try my hardest to get photos up with explanations for any queries that may arise.

 

 

Once the case details have been sorted, I will get the Motherboard installed and get the OS on.. oce done I will begin the Front Fan installation, (8xLL120mm) along with the cable arrangement from fans to rear Cable Management Area, and whats needed to travel such a distance.. Extensions for both Fan Power and Fan RGB are going to be needed. 16x cables all in.. Should be fun! :D:

What i have found is.. Re' the Pass through... much better to have a RGB Fan LED hub or no more than 4 strips on the Pass through due to power requirements of the chassis lighting's LEDS. the RGB Fan LED Hub is sata powered and as such places no drain on the devices before it (hope that made sense)

 

when spec'd with 6 strips on the passthrough i found that the last 2 strips wouldnt be as bright as the rest when set to bright white and yellow/orange type colors..

The fan Trays can be easily removed by pressing the little levers down while sliding out the trays

Which can also be slid off of their hinges in the same way the main glass doors can

The Glass doors come with a small bag with a single screw in it. one on each door.. once doors are in place you can use the screw in the top hinges each side to stop the doors being easily removed

It replaces the horizontal mount by removing the circled Screws. will go into more detail on this in a later post.

ZipTies/10 Corsair Velcro Straps (WINNER!!) and a Sata cable for powering the Case's front IO and Sails Logo without iCue, lights up in white only. will cover this in detail in a later post.

  6. Corsair Commander Pro (making 2 with the included 1000D edition Commander Pro)
  7. Corsair LL140mm Fans x 3
  8. Corsair LL120mm Fans x 10

Do you mind if I ask what tool you're using to create your wiring diagram up above? I'd love to start creating some similar diagrams for wiring the fans in my 1000D. Thanks.

That really is old school. :biggrin: It looks great.

 

For some reason, I thought maybe there was a Corsair utility that included creating wiring diagrams for use with iCUE. Or that iCUE itself had support for such a thing.

 

I would think such a utility would be pretty useful for iCUE or Link (or whatever) users. Plug all the planned corsair devices into the utility and let it offer up diagrams and options and instructions for connecting everything properly.

as a utility.. good call.. although. I really dont mind making them up for people or indeed people using mine to make their own...

Amazing Job with the build! What did you for cable management for the front fans? Did you get RGB extensions or anything?

 

not at that stage yet as still waiting on my PSU.. but most certainly i will be needing extensions for both fan power and fan rgb...

You have to remove the PSU shroud. There's two thumb-screws, one on the back panel and one back in the cable management area.

OK you said you sdidnt mind doing diagrams---I;m going to take you up on that--how would you draw up 18 fans ( 8 front and top, two at the back, all LL and 120mm) with two commander pros and al the LED hubs and node pros as far as the eye can see--add in 8 30mm light strips.

I Wouldn't dude... you would need more than 2 commander pro's if you went that route.. so it would be double the front set up in my 1000d diagram above ;)

 

but here is how top and front go... run rears off Mobo?.. i certainly wouldnt run more than 8 suitable fans from a CoPro.. remember.. splitters are not officially supported

now due to access to the screws when mounting the GPU my advice would be fit the bracket to your card first..

 

I will be using the Cooler Master Riser Cable my self

So.. Gpu is in... all in its a very simple process to fit and mount the GPU vertically. as i said.. fit bracket to GPU first and of course the riser cable into your chosen PCiE slot.

 

I also advise you get all the other work in that area done before you mount the GPU as access to things like usb headers etc can become limited

HAH cant help my self--I just bought a third!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Ever notice how a build grows on you and gets bigger and bigger, and then eventually say 3-4 years you get disgusted throw it all out and go with the new chipset?????

lol.. I know that feeling lol... but i do try to sit it out a bit longer lol.. just come from a 4790k to the i7 8700k lol.. but yeah.. well over 2k on Corsair stuff in last 18 months
