spleenjack
I want to buy many HGST He10 SATA drives with Power Disable Feature (PWDIS) support for my homemade NAS. They have tech brief about this feature. The easiest solution for legacy PSU is to use Molex-to-SATA connector. This adapter will remove the 3.3V signal from P3 of the SATA connector, and the HDD will start normally. However, that solution is not so elegant and there will be no PWDIS support. Does Corsair have any SATA cables for modular PSUs with disabled/grounded PIN3?
TRT
The Tech Brief links to a video of a guy explaining why this PWDIS is a good thing. Unfortunately he doesn't explain WHY they made it active HIGH instead of active LOW. I mean, active LOW wouldn't affect MOLEX to SATA users, as the pin would just float, but it would enable people with the PSUs that complied with the older SATA spec to use the drive as the pin would be tied high, and thus power disable would not be active.
