h115i Platinum firmware update crashed pump

Recommended Posts

(SOLVED) I finally managed to unbrick my H115i Platinum RGB !!!

It bricked during firmware update via iCue. RGB turned off, fans went full throttle, and the pump stopped. The usual recipe. It wasn't easy to fix, but works better than taking it out to send it for warranty/repair.

Imma give you the steps, and i hope as many people see this.

1. Search your C: drive for a "H115_Platinum" .hex file. It's a longer name, but you can find it by searching like this. Copy the file to a handy location, like Desktop for example, and rename it to leave only "H115_Platinum_version number.hex"

2. Restart windows in safe mode (F4 option during recovery startup).

3. Make sure none of the Corsair processes did not start, if so, CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and close them.

4. Go to Services (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC -> Services -> Open Services) and DISABLE the Corsair Services. (3 of them)

5. Go to Corsair installation folder (C:/program files...) and locate the following application (do not open it!) XMCBOOTLOADER.EXE.

6. DRAG AND DROP the .hex file from step 1 over the XMCBOOTLOADER.EXE. The app should now connect to the bootloader, and force push the firmware upgrade.

If you get an error during first time, do not panic! For mine, it worked on 3rd try! Reboot safemode, make sure all the processes and services from corsair are ended/disabled.

When it will work, unicorn barf will light up instantly, and the fans will go to quiet mode.

ALSO, when you want to upgrade the firmware via iCue (very risky), do it in safe mode!

Some processes interfere with the connection between the AIO and iCue (HWInfo, Steam, Logitech control app)

But I have reinstalled icue, do you think that the file still exists?

I just built a new threadripper 3970 build and am using this AIO for cooling. It's been nothing but trouble since I powered on yesterday. The safe mode force update posted by Huskyuk worked for me - I was able to finally get the firmware update installed successfully. However, I'm still having nothing but trouble with this device. It'll appear to work fine for 5, 10 minutes at a time, but doing a load test on the CPU, the 115i's detected temperature suddenly drops (sometimes to below 0C), the pump and fans just switch to minimum speeds (this is under 100% load with 80C CPU temp at this point), and the fan LEDs switch to red. They'll flash back to the default unicorn colors for a second or two, but temps will remain unstable for the CPU and crazy low for the sensors.

At this point I'm guessing this is just a bad unit. I could have sworn I heard a sloshing noise from the radiator as I was installing it - figure that can't be good. But with everything else, the intermittent flashing to red for the LEDs, I'm guessing it's just bad and that a return to Newegg is the only option. I already have an order in for an NZXT (I have two co-workers who use these on identical builds with low temps and no issues), but I'm not happy about it - I've been a big Corsair supporter for a long time but this is shaking my confidence in them. Kinda hoping there's something I can do before I give up hope completely...

These drops happen because hwinfo interferes with icue and I think you use this tool for measuring the Temps. But just a question bro: can you end me your hex file?

I'm using iCUE to measure everything, and CPUID to run the stress test. That's all I have running. And I see the temp drops with just iCUE running.

I've boxed the unit up ready to ship back to Newegg, so I'm not able to get in and grab the hex file easily. However, it'll be on your machine somewhere under AppData (from a command line, go to your appdata root folder and type "dir /s *.hex" and you should find it.

One issue I just considered - I was running the ASUS AI suite to monitor things at the same time. Not sure if this broke the iCUE software or not (but you should be able to run both I would have thought). Anyway, still RMAing the unit, since it's sloshing and clearly has air in the radiator, which is bad.

I searched for the H115 .hex file per huskyuk's post from March and am unable to find such a file on my PC. If you can let me know which directory it might be in I can double check that it just hasn't been indexed.

I also couldnt find one because i deinstalled ICUE after my AIO didnt work. If you cannot find it then you dont have it. I would recommend you asking in multiple Forums for people who have the same AIO and ask them if they could look for this file. For an example i did it and got the file from someone. I cannot send you mine because i have the h100r platinum and not h115.

On the Corsair Forum. My title was "Who has H110I Platinum RGB?" and then i asked the people who replied for the file. Or you can also contact the corsair support and ask them for that file. But i for an example havent got any reply yet

Thank you very much for this info!

I experienced no RGB, waterpump failure, and fans running at 100% after updating my iCUE H100i Pro XT to the latest iCUE software & firmware at the same setting.

Fortunately, I was able to manually re-flash the firmware and by running on an older version of iCUE (3.28.70 instead of 3.29.110), my H100i Pro XT is running normally again.

I can't believe Corsair has released such a buggy update.

Look at my post here to find the hex file, it's a download, not on your pc, I too tried following many tutorials to find it on PC with no luck. After about 2 hours of searching I found this little miracle.

https://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=197490

If you need help finding the log file which tells you which file you need, please let me know, it not the one you think it is. Be 1 billion percent sure you know which file you have. It is not as obvious as it seems.

But please, I cannot stress this enough, make sure you know which file it is, DO NOT just click the link in my post, find the name that matches your block and get it, it could be wrong! Check your logs and find out which file name your iCue software is using. Get it wrong and you really might brick it.

Hi guys, today I discovered one amazing thing. If you connect pump with regular usb cable

(eg. from mobilephone charger) and plug it in rear usb of the motherboard and then try to update the firmware it will work perfect. Then when you reconect the old way to the MBO usb header, everthing will work but pump will disconnect every 30 sec. or so and sound for disconnecting device in windows will play, and that is not the case if you connect the pump to the rear usb.Another thing is that you must connect the pump to the real sata power plug, not molex to sata adapter if you want light to glow on pump.I hope that I help someone, sorry for my english, its not my native language.

If it wasn't for Michael May the Technical Marketing Specialist- North America who personally reached out to me first in a personal message then after giving him my personal email address by direct communication via email with really fast response times and he even answered some of my questions after hours. First we had to isolate the common problem that users where having then isolate the hardware we all had in common.seems that ASMedia USB 3.1 and ASMedia USB 3.0 drivers were at fault for this potentially costly issue, and not just costly for the consumer but for Corsair themselves had they had to replace any hardware damaged from overheating due to a defect in the drivers between Corsair's hardware and software and ASMedia drivers and hardware. Corsair has attempted to reach out and get in touch with ASMedia to work on a permanent solution so that not another consumer like you or I had this issue rear its ugly head again. Turns out ASMedia has no interest in communicating with Corsair to fix the issue and now that ASUS MSI and most other major motherboard manufacturers have dropped ASMedia they will likely feel the pinch in all that loss of revenue. So when Micheal and I figured out the issue he got in touch with the engineering team there at Corsair and they came up with this solution.... https://youtu.be/oW9C8fxU72U now as for the firmware I'd upload mine to google drive to share it with you but i am not 100% sure what cooler you have but if you reach out to Corsair via their help desk and tell them you need the firmware for your said cooler they will provide it to you. Pass it on to anyone willing to stop being so pissed off at Corsair for ASMedia being the **** up. I also suggest using laptop or another computer that is sitting right next to the system with the pumps and fans in it and just use a longer if you need to micro USB to USB cable and do not use a USB 3 or higher port. follow the instructions in the YouTube link that I provided and you should be back up and running in less than 20 minutes or so. If you have further problems message me back so I can go through the procedure with you and make sure you covered all of the bases. My pump has been running fine for almost a year now with no more issues. I hope this helps get you back on your feet!

Having the exact same issue and believe this is the fix. I opened a ticket a number of days ago but had no reply. I was wondering if anyone could pm me a link to download the latest/most stable firmware for the h115i Pro. Would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi, my h115i Pro xt after automatically trying to update the firmware via iCUE doesn't work properly.

The BIOS don't recognise the CPU fan where I have the AIO connected and the light in the pump is off all the time.

I verified the connections USB and Power and is everything OK the pump is working and the CPU is cool.

The H115i Pro XT doesn't appear on the iCUE but the windows 10 recognise it and he appear on the hardware menu.

The win 10 is always making the sound of new hardware founded like I'm connecting and disconnecting the USB of the AIO.

My system...

CPU - Intel 9900K

MB - Asus Maximus XI Extreme

VGA - Asus Strix 2080 Ti OC

PS - Seasonic Prime Ultra 850W Titanium

OS - Windows 10 Pro - Version 20H2

Has anybody found out how to reveret back to the firmware it shipped with?

I have been sat in front of my machine for 2 days now trying to find out how to fix the issue the firmware update caused.

The pump must be working as CPU temp sat under 27 Degrees C but the RGB lights no longer function and there is a constant beeping like USB device being removed that is driving me crazy.

Surely someone must have found a way to fix this?
