Which is better for Intel i9 10900K system?

 

Dominator Platinum RGB DDR4 3600 MHz c16 or Vengeance Pro RGB DDR4 4000 MHz c18?

 

These are the best 2 types of ram I can find locally apart for DDR4 3200 MHz c16

It likely doesn't make a huge amount of difference for performance. On the other hand, there certainly is an aesthetic difference between the kits.

 

These are the AIDA scores for my 10900K (4x8GB Dominator 3600C16) in XMP form and 4000 with no secondary tweaking.

3600 16-18-36 (52071/53151/47254/51.8ns)

 

4000 17-19-39 (54987/57600/53711/49.3ns)* The XMP 4000C18 kit is likely slightly lower than this, further narrowing the differences.

 

 

The thing is unless you are running some professional software that maxes your memory bandwidth, neither is going to be the limiting factor. It is also likely both kits can tolerate further enhancements. I can hand tune my 3600C16 kit up (57.8K/60K/56.6K/45.5ns) by working the secondary timings at 4000 17-19-39. It's probable the other kits can tighten slightly as well to match, which then makes it more or less a dead heat. Where it might have more meaning is if you loath to ever enter the memory timing part of the BIOS and simply want to click XMP and be done.

 

So if it's all pretty much the same, you are back to visual preference on Dominator vs Vengeance Pro.

I am leaning more towards the Dominator Platinum DDR 3600 C16 but is it really better than DDR 3200 C16? There is a big price difference

Overall it matters little, unless again you are using some professional software that eats a lot of memory bandwidth. Aside from that, it's more about personality. If you are someone who likes to wring out every last drop of performance, you are probably better off with the 3600C16. It will clock up. The 3200C16 likely can't reach the same frequencies at the same timings. The matching CAS latency (C16), but 400 MHz frequency difference tells you which is the higher binned kit. If you just like to casually play and enjoy things, then you are probably fine. If you all your games at 1080p so you can run 300 fps in competitive shooters, then RAM frequency may have more meaning.

I was looking at your hardware profile. If you still have an RX5700XT you could even buy a kit of 3000 and not see a difference. you're massively GPU bound so the speed of CPU and ram do not matter a bit at this stage.

But if you swap that card in the future, i saw a pretty good uplift going from 3200 to 3600 on mine, still GPU bound by the 2080. (pretty good meaning 3 or 4 FPS, measurable but not really noticeable).

May help get those last frames if you start to tickle high resolutions on a few games.. or very high FPS at lower res as it has been said.

depends on your use case and what your board is actually capable of running. from a mere ram side of view, Intel goes more well with frequency. if you really want to flex, get a 3200c14 or even a 4000c16 kit from G.Skill and overclock that badboy yourself.
