Can I use half of a split 8pin plug in a 4pin socket?

I just bought a new motherboard (Asus X570-TUF Plus) and will be reusing my AX860 Modular PSU.

The new MoBo has an 8pin socket (which I have a cable for) and an adjoining 4pin socket next to it (for which I don't.) Sockets can be seen in the upper left of the photo.

I DO however have a spare 8pin cable where the plug is split into two linking 4pin "CPU" plugs. Can I use this cable (connecting only one of the two plugs) or do I need to order a special 4pin-only cable?

TIA

The "spare cable" came from your AX860 or from another PSU?

And, as stated above: You really don't need it.
