Void 3.5mm microphone problem

I have used a VOID stereo gaming headset with the 3.5mm jack for nearly a year. About a day ago, my mic started to sound like absolute trash. I was told in many games that it sounds really bad, and in the Skype echo thing to test you mic it sounds as if i'm talking in a massive windstorm, there is constant background sound like a fan, and everything i say makes it sound like I am talking through a potato. Please help me solve this! I love the headset and don't want to have to get a new one!
