H115i RGB PLATINUM 280mm fan specs vs ML140 PRO RGB LED 140MM specs

Hi All,

The Corsair H115i RGB PLATINUM 280mm AIO cooler comes with 2 x Corsair ML140 PRO RGB LED fans. The spec for the ML140 PRO RGB LED fans says 400 - 1200 RPM. Does anyone know why the Corsair H115i RGB PLATINUM 280mm AIO cooler specs say the max fan speed is 2000 RPM but the ML140 PRO RGB LED 140MM fan spec says fan speed is 400 - 1200 RPM? I have read posts from several people who complained that the RGB version of the ML140Pro fans have a much lower max RPM than the non-LED version of the ML140Pro. I found a GURU3D review of the cooler but it just parrots the Corsair specs for the cooler, which conflict the specs for the fans that come with the cooler. Am I confused?

I would prefer the RGB version of the ML140Pro fans, but not if they max out at 1200 RPM instead of 2000 RPM. Sorry if this has come up before but it has been bugging me for awhile and I could not find any threads here asking about this.

The specs are correct. The H115i Pro comes with 2 "ML Quiet". These are lower speed fans designed in accordance with overall Pro "quiet" theme. They are the same specifications as the ML140 RGB fans, but without lighting. The H150i Pro has similar 120mm non-RGB fans identical to the ML120-RGB in performance.

The Platinum series come with a unique version of the ML140 RGB that is a 2000 rpm max and otherwise identical to ML140 Pro fans, but with lighting.

The fan blade and frame are identical on all models, so unless you are actually running at 1500-2000 rpm on those 140s, there is no gain. That is pretty loud and more than I can take for a fairly small reduction in coolant temp. Of course the wonder is why the high speed ML-RGB versions never became retail box models. I always was expecting it, but it never happened.

Hi C-Attack. Thanks for the explanation. I did not know there were 2 versions of the ML140 Pro RGB fans so now it makes sense. I thought that they had to reduce the max RPM due to the presence of the LEDs, hence the spec of 400-1200 RPM. I guess they figured out how to spin them at 2000 RPM with the LEDs. Point taken about never running the fans that fast unless you are trying to simulate a jet engine in your case!

As for the H115i Pro with 2 "ML Quiet" ML140 fans but no lighting - I could only find the H115i RGB Pro XT, which has 16 pump RGB LEDs but no fan LEDs. The spec for that model says max fan speed is 2200 RPM, (which is even higher than 2000 RPM). It also says the fan dimensions are 120mm x 25mm which makes no sense if they are ML-140 fans.

I think there used to be a model H115i Pro with "Quiet" ML140 Pro fans (no LEDs) and a single color pump LED but I can't find it on the Corsair site anymore. Maybe they recently dropped it? I swear it was there when I posted the original question but now I don't see them.

Edit - Found the H115i Pro RGB (not XT) with the single color LED pump. It comes up in a Google search but not on the Corsair site search. There are no specs listed at all.

I think are at least 7 different ML versions in each size, so it is messy. The lighting for all these newer RGB fans would have been a big problem, but that is why there are two wires. It never would have worked without separate power sources for RGB and fan power. The original ML PRO LED fans run at higher current, but have much softer 4 single color LEDs. That was kind of a breakthrough as the first PWM LED radiator fan. Things changed fast after that and now we live in nest made of wires.

The XT will come with the 2000 rpm non-RGB version in grey with no rubber corners. This is the same as the ML140 "twin pack" that has been sold for a while -- essentially a stripped down ML140 Pro. I believe the "2200 rpm" is a misprint, but I had not noticed. I will send it to them to verify, but if you go to the main page and tab through a couple pictures, you will see a close up with the two fans and a "400-2000 rpm" listing. That is what I was expecting.

Thank you again. I guess I don't feel bad that I was getting confused by comparing the fan specs to the fan specs listed with the AIO coolers. I guess all of these versions is the price of innovation.

I am getting the build itch again. My last rig was an Intel 8700K build with a stupid amount of RGB. My one before that (Intel 5820K) also has a stupid amount of RGB. They were more learning experiences than pursuit of infinite bling. This time around it will be Ryzen - probably a 3900X. I am debating whether to bling this one out or go back to basics.

If I procrastinate much longer, I may end up with a Zen 3 build...:biggrin:
