My PSU has been very quiet but all I have is an RX 480 8GB card to play games on, It uses one power cable.

A tiny 1/2 BB drop is already too much

SATA data cables do not use much power at all. The power cable for a typical hard disk is maybe 8-9W max at cold start.

as for braided cables, i have not seen them for peripherals, only flat cables

since then I have standardized on 850W or bigger power supplies mostly as I have using a lot of very high-end...

Managed power supplies allow more customizations...
