I had the same problem, I play wow and the side buttons would stop working and I would restart to fix it. The solution to the problem was easy though. I bound all the keys to my numpad and didn't notice that for some reason my num lock was turned off for whatever reason. When num lock was off it didn't recognise the binds. I'm still not sure however why the numlock randomly turns off but the mouse works fine now.
