Dominator Platinum 2133/2400/2666MHz Overclocking

One of the best parts about my job at Corsair is pushing our DDR3 memory to its limits. As you may have seen in the past I set the DRAM Frequency World Record and recently pushed our new Dominator Platinum memory to 3000MHz at Computex 2012. Not everybody can overclock to 3000MHz so let’s take a look at what the 2133MHz, 2400MHz, and 2666MHz Dominator Platinum kits can achieve.

I started off with the CMD16GX3M4A2133C9 kit rated for 2133MHz 9-11-10-30 at 1.5v.  With the stock settings 2200MHz was easily achieved by adjusting the base clock to 103.2MHz. Relaxing the timings to 10-12-11-30 and raising the DRAM voltage to 1.65v the modules were able to run at 2450MHz. With a higher DRAM voltage of 1.75v I was able to reach over 2500MHz!

Next up is the CMD16GX3M4A2400C9 kit rated at 9-11-11-31 at 1.65v.  When running memory frequencies above 2400MHz it is highly recommended you have some airflow over the modules. This helps to keep the modules cool and can help your max overclocks. With relaxed timings of 11-13-13-35 the kit was able to achieve 2600MHz Removing two of the modules and selecting the best two I was able to achieve 2666MHz with the same timings and extra voltage.

Finally I tested the CMD16GX3M4A2666C10 which is the only 2666MHz CAS 10 kit currently on the market. This kit requires that you have a CPU with a very good memory controller and airflow over the modules. At stock timings and voltages the kit passed 2700MHz with ease. Raising the voltage and loosening the timings I saw speeds of 2750MHz+! With higher voltages in the 1.8v+ range it is possible to crack 2800MHz and beyond.

The Dominator Platinum modules not only look great but they can really overclock. I was impressed at how easy they were to overclock and the great results I saw. The 2133MHz kit was able to achieve a 317MHz overclock! With these settings you should be able to reach similar frequencies or higher.
