Introducing iCUE Murals (Beta)

Corsair CJ
 Share

Today we're happy to take the wraps off of a new feature that's come to the CORSAIR iCUE Software, Murals!

iCUE Murals replaces the "Scenes" section on the iCUE home screen with a more powerful, interactive tool that enables you to turn any image, audio output, or display into dynamic RGB lighting that spans across your entire room.

First, you'll want to make sure to update to the latest version of CORSAIR iCUE (at the time of writing, that'd be iCUE 4.30.162), so swing by our Downloads page or check for updates in iCUE if you've already got an older version installed on your system.

Once you've updated to iCUE 4.30.162 or newer, you can start exploring iCUE Murals!

murals_1.thumb.png.09bd7ffa57d284f02511d25970ea6ae8.png

New effects can be added by hitting the "+" button, and from there you can select from a variety of lighting effects.

murals_2.thumb.png.122b576cdb37766fc12d053cb05a6be7.png

After a brief setup process. That effect will now be applied to all available devices that support iCUE Murals.

murals_3.thumb.png.b91a63937ffe689544acef9457f0e2a7.png

To make further adjustments to an iCUE Murals effect that you've created, hover your mouse cursor over one of your effects and open the Colors and Settings menu. This will let you change the name of the effect, change the effect type, and adjust scaling.

Further adjustments can be made in the Murals tab at the top of the iCUE window, where you can change the placement, size, and orientation of your iCUE Murals-compatible devices along a 2D plane that represents your screen or other chosen lighting effect. Note that you can stack devices on top of each other if you want them to light up at the same time with the same colors of whatever animation source you've chosen.

The devices panel on the left can be used to quickly select a device if it isn't immediately visible in a stack of other devices. You can also disable murals for individual devices if you'd rather that device use our standard lighting system.

murals_5.thumb.png.bb21fee2e67fb46c254dc86d65ccac08.png

Devices that have been excluded from iCUE Murals (but still support the feature) are marked with a clear circle in the iCUE menus.

murals_6.thumb.png.22170b25f85f312c7de8ce17f1c32bf2.png

And will still have access to their standard lighting features and support multiple lighting layers (if the device is capable of doing so).

Also, one last note. Murals are tied to profiles, so you can switch between profiles that you've set up with our standard layered lighting system and profiles that you've set up to use a Mural effect. Making this incredibly powerful if say you have a profile with standard lighting set up that you like for just general computing and a separate profile with the Murals "Monitor Screen" effect applied for gaming that you can switch to on the fly (or tie to a game executable) for your favorite game!

And that's it! Y'all may have noticed we've announced this feature as a Beta, and that's because this is a really new approach to lighting for us and we want our users to spend some hands on time with Murals and provide their feedback here in the forums.

Additional release notes for iCUE 4.30.162 can be found here

I dont like the murals effect because of the lack of the scenes you can choose. Hopefully they still include the scenes in the previous version to the latest update.

Already installed the old version of icue to still used the scenes effect.

Scenes havent gone. You just need to take 2 minutes to set up the same profile

Hey iCUE,

I love murals unlike everyone else. My only suggestion is integrating them into profiles as well to be able to use the functionality per profile. I love using a different profile for each game, but one game I may want to use murals for most of my lighting devices and in another use it for just my keyboard. Currently you have to use the same lighting devices if you want to use murals, meaning you can't customize in the same way you may want. Other then that, great update and scenes were just profiles, they don't need to be added back. 🙂

I love it. Its unlimited profiles. The Monitor Screen Mural is great for visuals for any game you play or any video you watch. So glad to see an Audio one as well as ive been missing RGBeat since it stopped working after ICue 3. So much more messing about i can do to create much more lighting effects instead of the scenes, which were just a shortcut to a profile basically.

Is it possible to bring back some of the predesigned lighting that we had before the murals update?

Or is it possible to download murals that people have already created?

Thanks for the follow-up and additional details.  Couple more details to help us out in our investigation, which browser are you using to view the content?  And are you using a single monitor or multiple?

I'm using chrome, latest version. Also happens in the respective desktop apps though. Single monitor. Running it to my TV for movie times.

There is no support for ICUE on my ASUS devices and the RGB does not work; it's not compatible with ICUE. Also, the old themes that I liked are now gone and replaced with ones I don't enjoy.

I agree with this post, losing my old themes that I spent hours tuning is super disappointing.  I have RAM, 10 fans, keyboard, mouse, and light bars that were all tuned perfectly and now everything looks like garbage.  Admittedly the Watercolor Spectrum has some similarity at least with the scrolling, but its an unfortunate weak pastel color. Super disappointed because this update came without warning and there doesnt appear to be an option to go back and given that this is BETA I'm guessing I will be dealing with these awful visuals for a while.

The predesigned lighting is still available within Murals, you will just need to assign them to a profile now instead like @t1971 specified.  Murals builds off the same concept, but allows more flexibility and customization.

Murals is cool and all, but I personally don't like it I want everything to be synced and I can't do that now because when ever I choose the standard lighting profile it defaults back to murals. I know its a small complaint but I bought this stuff because I was able to sync and have everything just the way I wanted it and not I can not do that.

Add Profile, give it a name a click create. Select one of your devices, go to lighting effects, Click add (+).  Move over to Lighting Type and click on Lighting Link. Select one of the effects. All the devices are synced.

Under Profiles, Click on the 3 dots beside your profile name and Set as Default. That will be your effect from now on unless you select a mural yourself.

ICue is based on profiles. Murals were just Lighting Link profiles. As are Murals.

If you really want things to look nice, download profiles from here and import them. They are better than any scene was, and no scenes have been lost if you set the profile up yourself.

Latest update 4.32.129 is causing system stability issues. It is crashing my system now. Icue suddenly disables itself then sets everything back to the hardware lighting settings and the mouses dpi also resets.

When this happens everything hangs up and I am forced to hit the rest button on the PC as you cant click on anything and taskmanager displays a blank screen when brought up by keyboard commands.

I looked it up and some users had this issue back in 2021 with one of the icue updates too. I uninstalled icue and now no issues, only occurs when Icue is installed and its random when it starts. This did not occur with earlier icues versions with my system and even the earlier beta. Uninstall and reinstall does not fix it, I will revert to an earlier version and see if it persist.

I also ran sfc/ scannow, check disk, defragmented and verified the intergretity of my windows and other programs so I have isolated this to purely icue as nothign is corrupt or broken.

I9-13900k, Asus Maximus Z790 Extreme, Corsair DDR5 7600mhz kit, Strix 4090, Windows 11, all drivers, bios etc  are up to date.

Anyone have the previous Murals beta before 4.32.129

I am really trying to get this murals beta to work for me and finally got my issues with the old profiles/scenes and it setting a default watercolor layer automaticly to the old scenes messing them up sorted out. That was the issue to why it was meessing up scenes like rain etc. Now that I let it update again I have the issues above. May just have to go back to the pre murals build again 😔

Did find this though https://www.corsair.com/us/en/downloads/iCUESetup_X.XX.XX_release.msi?_ga=2.194917732.851045122.1673431707-316431211.1673431707

Mow running veersion 4.29 the fans just kick up to 100 percent for no reason at all and stay there despite the icue settings and cool temps. It also says it has a profile conflict though I followed the directions https://help.corsair.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025166712-Perform-a-clean-reinstallation-of-the-Corsair-Utility-Engine-iCUE-    on how to do a clean icue install. Oh and now some of my leds turned off. Guess its remove all icue connections and do everything to the board directly other wise I have no fan control to cool my rads. Not cool Corsair, your cutomer support already gave me grief when they took a month to replace faulty ram and now this again.

@Sorata the link below is for the previous version, 4.31.168.  Let us know if the behavior goes away.  Also, can you provide the rest of your system specs so we have a full perspective to look at?

https://downloads.corsair.com/Files/CUE/iCUESetup_4.31.168_release.msi

Unfortunately the issue did not go away even following your sites guide for a clean uninstall. Once icue started acting up  it pretty much made the system unbootable and I had to end up wiping the entire C drive and installing windows and every single file from scratch as with the fans acting up the system could have killed itself. I reinstalled the version of icue you provided just a bit ago and so far everything appears fine.

I'm a neat freak so luckily I keep a file of everything done to my builds. Hopefully this helps

Also even though everything seems to run fine now as has always been the case with my current and previous build icue sometimes hangs on boot even though the start on windows option is on and you have to close it in task manager and reopen it for the lighting effects etc to kick in, and the icue Nexus will often hang-up and freeze but I have seen that is very common with it since it came out and unplugging and replunging it works but is very annoying..

Great to hear the 4.31.168 iCUE build improved your experience.  If you cold start the system without the NEXUS connected, does the boot have the same hang-ups?

All the boot hang-ups etc are gone just the Nexus the same as prior to all this freezes randomly, mostly in games but also just idle. The temp monitors I have set stop tracking and moving and you have to unplug and replug it every time. This happens almost every 30 minutes and almost 100% when playing a game or bench mark etc.

It takes way more than 2 minutes.   I've been looking through the settings for the better part of an hour and I cannot see a way to set it up the way I had it before.   Extremely frustrating.

Which are you having trouble recreating. They were just Lighting link Profiles.

Does this now work with Wallpaper Engine, or will any open window get added into the mix?

I had understood that using the monitor as an option for murals results in any window or application over the background impacting the lighting.

Also assuming there is still no OSD to tell us what profile we have changed to?

Not sure if I am missing something here ...

It seems to me that creating a Mural is very restrictive at this time, as device sizes / positions appear to be saved globally, rather than per Mural.

For example, I would find them far more useful if it was possible to create two Audio Lighting instances, or any two or more Murals, but with different device sizes / positions etc.

As far as I can see, once devices are sized / positioned in one Mural, those particular attributes apply to each and every Mural created, so any changes made to sizes / positions will  affect every Mural ?

I would love to see this implemented if possible, (as well as device snapping ...)
