TWIN2X2048-9136C5D needing more voltage?
When new my RAM would boot at 1.8v so that I could get into the BIOS and change the operating voltage to 2.1v.
Last week my Abit IN9 32X was giving me a C1 error, wouldn't boot, couldn't even get into BIOS so I bought another stick of RAM rated at 1.8v which allowed me to boot into BIOS, set 2.1v, change the memory and we were off again.
Today I have been all through the process again but this time the RAM wouldn't work even at 2.1v, tried several times just to make sure I was actually managing to save the BIOS settings before shutting down - not wanting to boot my 1.8v RAM at 2.1v!
It appears to me that the RAM is needing increasing voltage to work, something I have heard of before especially from over-clockers but which is something I have not done with with this RAM, I've always run it at either 800 or 1000MHz @ 2.1v.
How do I proceed? Can I safely apply more voltage? How much?
Should I RMA? Thanks.

Download memtest from www.memtest.org and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to an CD-ROM disk. Boot to the optical drive with the memtest disk and allow for two full passes.
Results?

Thanks but that's kind of difficult as I can't boot on that memory at it's default voltage - hence my question about how much more voltage I can safely apply.

Moved to Correct Section!
The Voltage should be set to 2.1 Volts for these modules, have you tested the one at a time at their tested settings with www.memtest.org?

I have tried those sticks of RAM again in my PC over the weekend and they cause the boot process to fail giving a C1 error on my Abit IN9-32X. I tried each stick and in different slots, no luck now. So I am unable to run MemTest.
They are no longer working at the recommended settings, whereas last week I could get them working again, can't get into BIOS or do anything at all with them at all.
Hopefully I am getting a new motherboard tomorrow which I could try them in but who's to say the new board isn't defective, still - worth a try.

Please let us know when you get the new MB, but if its doing the same thing with either module that would suggest its not the memory.

I can confirm that both sticks of RAM - singularly or as a pair, give the same C1 error on my new Abit IX-38 that I was getting on my Abit IN9-32X.
I feel pretty confident that the RAM is now defective somehow, my only concern is whether I am correctly (or actually) managing to change the BIOS voltage for the RAM.
Booting on my 1.8v RAM I enter the BIOS, change the voltage to 2.1v, F10 to save and let it re-boot. At the point where it starts to boot again, I kill the power and swap the 1.8v RAM for my Corsair's - then boot up getting the C1 error.
My problem is that I don't have access to yet more RAM that is also rated at 2.1v to check that the BIOS voltage change is actually happening. After I get the C1 error I have to clear-CMOS to get defaults back again so that I can once again boot on the 1.8v RAM and so not risk booting with it at 2.1v.
To recap, when new the RAM would boot at 1.8v defaults so I could get into the BIOS and set 2.1v. Last week, C1 errors - couldn't get into BIOS, bought 1.8v RAM to get into BIOS to set correct voltage, this week it will not boot at all on either of my motherboards. Stumped.

If both sticks are returning errors then I would look to the motherboard as being the issue. Can you test these sticks in another machine and test them singly with memtest from www.memtest.org?
You don't want to RMA and find yourself in the same problems and having spent time and money in the RMA procedure.

I thought my last post was fairly clear.
THE RAM HAS NOW BEEN TESTED ON TWO DIFFERENT MOTHERBOARDS.
NO I CANT MEMTEST THEM - I CAN NO LONGER BOOT WITH THEM!
Sorry to have to capitalise.
EDIT: C1 error is what the LED readout on the motherboards give, nothing to do with MemTest.
Detect Memory
- Auto-detection of DRAM size, type & ECC
- Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 or below)

Why would you be sorry and still do it when you know what it means?
Keep in mind that we work with hundreds of these cases a week and sometimes we make mistakes. You are one person coming here for help. Doing something like yelling and saying you are sorry for doing it does not mean you are sorry.

Four times in this thread I have said the RAM will not allow me to boot, I have been advised to run MemTest - which I can't, I am getting annoyed with the situation and am trying to get help to resolve the issue.

Replacement RAM arrived safely and is working fine in both Abit IN9 32X Max and also Abit IX38 Quad GT.
Many thanks.
