Corsair V2000 Distortion Workaround

So, spawning from my tragically poor explanation in this thread here I decided to go ahead and make a better step-by-step of what to do to lose the tragic bass distortion some of us are getting on the V2000's until Corsair has a better fix.

Step 1

1. Open the Corsair headset control Panel

2. Select which setup you prefer, either 7.1 Surround or 5.1 Surround

3. In my case I selected 7.1 Surround

4. Set it, and then never touch it again (see notes below), if you have to do anything in this panel, either stick to the ON/OFF Button, or adjusting the Equalizer.

Step 2

1. Go to Start and open the Control Panel

2. Click on Hardware and Sound

3. Click on Sound

4. Hilight the Vengeance 2000 in the device list, then click Configure

5. When the next window opens...

6. Select "7.1 Surround" or "5.1 Surround" so that it matches with what you selected in the Corsair headset control panel then click "Next"

7. In this screen you will see something like this, Select all speakers as indicated.

8. Then click "Next"

9. De-select full-range Speakers, like you see below:

http://www.demonpop.com/img/pick_no_full_range.png

10. And click "Next" again.

11. Select "Finish"

Step 3

1. Go to Start and open the Control Panel

2. Click on Hardware and Sound

3. Click on Sound

4. Hilight the Vengeance 2000 in the device list, then right-click and select "Properties"

5. Next Click the Enhancements tab as you see here:

http://www.demonpop.com/img/bass_mgmt.png

6. And put a check-mark by Bass Management

7. Once done with that, click "Settings"

8. Set the bass management exactly as I have it here (This gave me the best results):

http://www.demonpop.com/img/bass_mgmt2.png

9. Click "OK" to close everything up.

10. Run some tests.

With these settings I was able to get virtually distortion free audio while listening to dubstep/drum-n-bass/games/ventrilo/etc., even while pushing the volume to nearly 100% under a custom Mid-cut Bass+ equalizer setting I use for harder hitting stuff.

NOTES:

(1) If you change between 7.1 and 5.1 in the Corsair Headset Control Panel, Windows will scrap your room-setup info, including the bass management. And the distortion will come right back.

(2) If the Bass Management setting doesn't appear, just run the room config again, and make sure (this time) you deselect full-range for your Front and Surround Speakers.

Hope this Helps! ::pirate::

V1500 here. I only get distortion with 5.1 dolby on. Came to say I tried this and it doesn't work. Doesn't seem to have made a difference on lower Hz's, but 200Hz sounds...better... I suppose. It's still bad, but the volume doesn't fluctuate at least.

You might just play with the configure screen a bit to see if any of that helps. Or un-tick 'invert subwoofer polarity'. I'm uncertain how much of the core of the 1500's drivers were used in the making of the V2000's drivers, so for the time being, this is only testing to work on both of my Desktop and Laptop for the V2000

It seems to have worked for me. Before on BF3 if say a tank blow up next to me the sound would go messed up.

Now after using theses settings I can hear the bass quality much better.

Thanks OP

edit

One think I not using Office, I like home theater better :)

Glad this worked for you as well!

Curious about the Home Theater vs. Office setting - on my system this didn't work at all, audio became very tinny/robotic if I didn't select "Office". Either way, good to see this works on other peoples systems!

Tried this with my 1500s. The 5.1 just doesnt sound right with these settings but when i used it for the 7.1 i was very impressed at first at how punchy the bass was but then i noticed that i could here static when there was no music or noise playing same as the old drivers but before i only heard it at the top end of the volume where on this i heard it at halfway.

Im going to give this a go though play a little battlefield see if there any better or worse.

On a side note i was happy with the original drivers to begin with but after a while it was as if i stopped hearing the surround effect and i also heard the odd crackle.
