Default TX650 V2 (20+4) Power Connector won't plug in all the way

Howdy folks, I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I bought this new PSU a few days ago along with a new motherboard and got around to assembling parts yesterday.

Problem is that the 24pin Power Connector won't go all the way in to the Motherboard's (ASRock H77M) corresponding connector. The +4pin section of the connector goes in flawlessly, but the 20pin section doesn't.

Here is a picture of the TX650's connector: http://i47.tinypic.com/2md1et1.jpg

Here's how far it goes in: http://i48.tinypic.com/2ekm8ed.jpg

The safety clip is a few millimeters away from latching.

Nothing is broken, there's nothing on the PSU connector's shell that may be blocking the plug, it simply doesn't want to go in. I gave up after the third careful try so I don't accidentally damage something.

I plugged a different PSU to the motherboard and it fit perfectly, so the TX650's connector is the problem.

Is this a defect? I don't want to spend another $20 on shipping, insurance, and a 10% fee to RMA this just to find out "there's nothing wrong with it" and have the same problem.

Any advice? Thank you!

Please use the link on the left and request an RMA; but before you do I would look inside the connector on the MB and make sure there is not something stuck on one of the pins preventing it from make good contact.

Other 24pin connectors fit the motherboard well, so it's the PSU connector.

Okay, I fixed the issue myself, I think the problem was that the PSU connector and motherboard connector just needed to be "broken in" a little. All I did was keep plugging and unplugging them and eventually the the PSU connector slid in reasonably well. The computer was up and running soon after.

Thanks for the quick response though, Ramguy!

NO Problem, sometimes the pins in the connector are a little tight and cause a symptom like this.

Default Same Problem

I'm having the same sort of problem, only I switched my TX650 to an older system, with an older motherboard (ASUS K8N) that needs a 20-pin. I detatched the 4-pin, and the 20-pin won't seat all the way (clip doesn't engage).

I tried the paper-clip test, and the PS fan comes on, but not when plugged into the motherboard. I checked for anything on the pins, and I tried breaking it in, but neither worked.

Does anyone have any ideas, or have they had a similar experience?

Thanks.

I am not sure our PSU would be compatible with that MB as I remember it takes an ATX 1.3 Spec PSU. But if the MB supports ATX 2.01 Spec or newer our PSU should work.

That sounds like it. I looked through the specs on the motherboard, and all it says in relation to power supply is that it requires an "ATX Power Supply with 4-pin 12V plug." Does that mean ATX 1.3 Spec?

Thanks again.

You would need to speak with the MB manufacturer to be sure, one way to tell sometimes is in the manual and the pin that has the -5 Volts should say No contact or open if it supports newer ATX specifications.
