Default Force GT 120 GB issue

Hi,

I recently purchased a Force GT 120GB and installed Windows 7 64-bit on it. I ran ATTO and was disappointed to see only 200MB/sec read and 125MB/sec write results. I posted a screen below.
These are far from the normal expected speed. What can be wrong, where should I look first?
My firmware is updated to 5.02. I use a ASUS P7P55D-E LX motherboard. The disk is in AHCI mode, and is plugged into the Marvell SATA 6Gb connector of the motherboard.

The marvell controller won't give you 6GB, only Intel will. Your MB only supports 3GB Intel. Marvell controllers are poor at best. If you want your Force GT to run as advertised then you will have to up grade your MB.

Thanks for the advice, Pete. Still, should not a 3GB channel show better results?

Plug it into the Intel SATA II Ports.

SATA II Max speeds is around 280Mb/s, But you'll see approx 250Mb/s in ATTO.

You were right, Toasted! The SATA2 connection is now fully utilized, with much better speed (even if still far from ideal).

I will buy a new motherboard, and will look for one with Intel SATA contoller. Any tips which generation, chipset or brand I should choose from?

If you buy a new motherboard with an Intel SATA III (6.0Gb/s) port, You'll need to upgrade your CPU as well.

I see. I checked and my P55 chipset is indeed very old, from 2009. Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

Intel 7 series chipsets have the best SATA performance right now, X79, Z77, etc.
