Default force 3 on nvidia chipset hangs post

Hi, again.

After deciding to upgrade (avoiding corsair and sandfarce) I decided to put my old force 3 120gb in my sons machine which has a ecs geforce6100pm_m2 v7 motherboard in it. I have the latest (2010) bios but the drive sometimes hangs post. The motherboard only has sata2 and the drive is recognized as sata1.5 (I understand that this is a known issue, without a solution) it will not allow me to install vista or copy the vista install from the old disk.

If I were to update the firmware from 1.3.3 to 5.02(?) is this likely to solve the issue? or would it make sense to downgrade to 1.3.2 as that appears to disable AHCI, which may be the problem??

Thanks

Try a different SATA data cable/motherboard port.
You can try updating it to firmware 5.0.2, But i don't think it will solve your issue.

Request an RMA to replace the SSD.

It will be replaced with one that will work or with the same drive that will probably have the same issue?

Thanks

Scratch that might have access to a pci-e x1 controller card that should solve the issue.

All working fine so far on the new controller.

I think there should be a change in the way that this drive is advertised to highlight that it has problems with some controllers. The speeds advertised are never and will never be possible on my marvell controller and and "fully backwards compatible with sata 1 & 2" is misleading when it clearly isn't when using such a rare chipset as nvidia.

Good to hear its working on your new controller.

The advertised speeds were benchmarked using ATTO with the SSD running on a Intel SATA III 6Gb/s port. The AMD chipsets can sometimes perform lower than the Intel chipset which can make the ATTO benchmark slower than advertised speeds. The drives are backwards compatible with SATA I and II, most likely only tested on the AMD and Intel chipsets. The Nvidia chipsets are probably not compatible with SSDs or they do not work well with each other. (SATA I issue)
