460X + 6 SP120s where to connect?

Not sure if this belongs in cooling or here but just got a 460X and three more SP120s for the case. So I've run into a bit of problem, I know the fans LED are supposed to connect into the hub but for the fans to actually spin and run they have to be connected to a fan header or some type of fan hub, and it seems like I don't have enough headers on my motherboard to connect 6 fans. I'm guessing I'm forced to buy a Commander Pro? Which I want to try to avoid to save some cash.

Not necessarily. You could look at fan splitters or other similar devices if you don't have the budget for a Commander Pro.

I do know that some ASUS boards come with a fan control board that has additional fan headers for exactly this kind of situation. Though, I don't know if that's a feature exclusive to their high end boards such as the DELUXE or ROG series.

Right, I'm thinking of ordering the Commander Pro by the end of the week so I can have full control over everything. Especially since I can control these fans through link.

Have any tips on cable managing? I also have a Lighting Node Pro and putting a Commander Node Pro also in a 460X is going to be a struggle especially since I'm using HDDs and need the HDD bay. Plus my SATA cables are daisy chained and they're annoying to work with. :[pouts:

Do appreciate the response.

I just got done switching over from a coolermaster HAF 932 that was about 10 years old to a Corsair 460X. Let me tell you, it's a tighter squeeze than I thought, but I was able to get my 1080ti SC2 hybrid, H100I V2, 6 120HD fans and 4 LED RGB light strips in there with a commander Pro to help control all that RGB goodness. I had to remove my WD black HD and run it as an external HDD so I would have enough room for everything. I also took out the onboard fan controller so I could manage cables better.

I put the commander pro where the HDD drive bay was (after removing it) and ran all my fans to that, kept the Light controller where it was in the case for the RGB hookup and tied it all down with zip ties and double sided sticky tape.

I only have a picture of the side, I'll be getting another 120HD fan for the GPU fan in the next couple days and will have to open it back up to hook it up. I'll snag some better pictures once I do that. But for now, here's how she looks.

Nice that looks really good, front cable management for me isn't going to look that clean since I have an ATX board and there's no room to push the HD audio, USB 2.0, and front panel connectors. Gonna have to move those through the shroud or rubber garment. I still run HDDs so I have to leave my drive cage on the bottom. I was thinking of also removing the button controller for easier cable management and removing the SSD bays and use 3M double sided tape on my SSD and also put the commander pro there too.

How thick is the commander pro compared to an SSD?

I'd say it's about 1.5 to 2 times as thick as an my samsung SSD's. If you can, I would look at going the external HDD route with connections to a USB 3.0 port. That will give you 5GBs speed (something the HDD couldn't even handle unless its a very high end HDD).

As for the ATX MOBO, you might have enough room to pass the USB 2.0 cable in there from the back, I've seen a few builds where that was possible. That or you could run it under the MOBO.

I'll get some more pictures when I get the 6th 120HD in there, I'm thinking about connecting it to the commander pro and setting a custom fan curve for the AIO on the GPU...We'll see if that will work.

Hmm, I think the Commander Pro will be fine when I take the SSD trays off. I'd run external HDDs but all of my ports are already occupied.

Yeah I'm currently running most of the wires along the shroud under the MOBO, using black electrical tape on and taping them on the shroud to keep a clean look. Thankfully with the Commander Pro I can plug my H100i into it.

Sweet, looking forward to those pictures, once I get my Commander Pro a buddy and I will do some cable managing. Once it's done I'll post some pictures too.

Here's the updated pictures of my cable management in the back and my cable routing. Its not the cleanest setup ever, but it's one of the better one's I've ever done.

Notice where I put the RGB controller and then the commander pro is hidden under the PSU cover extension.

Nice that's looking real good. My Commander Pro is coming in tomorrow, wish I had custom cables but will use your picture as a reference for cabling. Hope to get it as good looking as yours!

I would strongly urge you to hook everything up and make sure it's working before doing a **** ton of cable management. I didn't do that and cost me half a day. I had an issue with my processor after I upgraded from the 6700 to the 6700K and it was kind of a nightmare to deal with taking things out, cutting ties and putting it all back in after testing and testing and then retesting...finally got it all fixed up and back together. So just make sure your system is working and stable before making it look all pretty front and back.

GL on the build, may the cable gods smile on your efforts.

PS you could always get cable extensions for that custom sleeved look with out the cost. My entire kit was $90 of amazon shipped (from cable mod/evga). However, I think you can get just a couple extensions for far less than that.

Finally got around to posting the pictures, cable management was a bit tough but got it finished. Had a wrestling match to get the side panel on but it got on there. Very happy with the way the case looks. Oh and notice the SSD tray is gone lol, double sided 3M tape ftw!

Nicely done man, necessity is the mother of all invention...I love 3M's double sticky tape.
