Replacement for original link commander commander mini or commander pro

I can't believe I am considering this since I spent so much on the original commander and well the software for it has never really worked right but if I replace my original link commander what is the better one to replace it with? The mini or the pro?

The reason I am thinking of replacing is because the new link software is not compatible with the original commander and I am thinking the newer version will be better than my current old version, especially now I am running windows 10. Annoying that corsair dropped support for the original commander when it never really worked correctly.

I notice that the pro doesn't have any of the link connector ports on it like the original commander does. Currently I have two of the original lighting controllers, the fan controller and an HX850I link capable PSU. So I am guessing that if I go for the pro commander I will not be able to connect my two lighting controllers or the HX850i to it as there are no link ports?

I notice that the mini does have the link ports on it so I should be able to use my lighting controllers with that so that might be the one to go for. However I am concerned that the min might not be supported for as long as the pro since its older. Does anyone know if there is plans to drop support for the mini like the did with the original commander? Also is the new version of the link software less buggy than the older versions? Am I going to see a benefit if I upgrade?

The CLCP (Commander Pro) Has 2 usb 2.0 ports where you would connect you PSU or any other CL device.

I noticed that I guess I could connect my HX850i to that but my lighting node only has the corsair link port on it and no USB unless you can get a cable that connects the link port to a USB header?

I have this lighting node:

  1. I feel the same, especially so as in my code it takes about 30 extra lines of C code to support the old Commander.
  2. I doubt you will find a CLCC (Commander Mini) and even if you do then it has several firmware bugs that are now unlikely to ever be fixed, see http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=903472.
  3. I suspect Corsair will drop CLCC support before they drop CLCP (Commander Pro) support.
  4. The CLCP has fan detection issues with some 3rd party fans, how many and which fans do you have?
  5. The CLCP needs totally different LEDs, for openers they are 5 rather than 12 volt and also use a totally different protocol.
  6. It's possible to use 3rd party LEDs which cost less than the Corsair LEDs, see http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=907769
  7. I guess it would be possible to build a 5V WS2812B to 12 V RGB converter, but this would need active components, I suspect cost more than getting new LEDs and your LEDs would not be individually addressable.
  8. Basically you can't sensibly reuse the Cooling or Lighting nodes.
  9. I just read http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=741248 :ummmm:.

Well that settles it then I don't think I will bother upgrading if I have to replace everything and the bugs still aren't fixed.

Disappointing again to read that the mini has firmware bugs that wont be fixed! I could spend the money upgrading and still have a link system with bugs only for corsair to drop the support and release a new version.

I had forgotten about that thread for the PSU! I think an SSD failed shortly after that post and by the time I got the system up and running again I couldn't be bothered messing about with link. I never did get the power supply working correctly with the commander and instead have run it from a USB header.
