richv
Good morning! I'm looking to upgrade my existing system from 6gb of ram up to 12gb of ram. As you can see in my profile, I have a EVGA triple channel motherboard (X58 class). It has existing Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D 3x2gb kit (6gb total). I don't see this kit available anymore. Can I add a CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 kit to up it to 12 gb total? The CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 is a 3X2gb kit. Thanks! PS - Love Corsair RAM... It is the best. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 30, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 30, 2012 Mixing memory can be a crap shoot and I would suggest you just purchase a 12 Gig set of modules as the cost is not that much more and then you don't have to worry about it. richv
Ouch... Pretty hard to justify replacing all the ram... It is another $90 bucks... Not something to sneeze at. I guess it is just perspective. So, Corsair's answer is "we are not sure"?
peanutz94
You are welcome to try anything you like, but as RG stated thee is no guarantee that any two kits even if they were the sme part number , would work together. If you do choose to take the chance and it does not work there is not alot Corsair can do except to replace them in hopes that you get a second kit that would play nice with the first. You may even have to reduce the frequency(1333mhz or even 1066mhz) to get them to pay together and that defeats the purpose of buying 1600mhz RAM. It's always best to use one tested matched kit of the capacity of your choice.
richv
Ok..... Never mind... I just priced the 12 gb kit and it is $10 more. I think I can handle that.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 30, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 30, 2012 For me the 10-30 dollars more is not worth the risk not to mention they will run faster and more stable.
