Obsidian 800D for Classified SR-2 Dual LGA1366

Hello Corsair Designers.

As you might know already there become two heavyweights on the computer component arena, Core i7-980X CPU and Classified SR-2 Motherboard. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_doubleup.gif

Regarding to the last mentioned I suggest that you come up with some sort of solutions for Corsair Obsidian Series™ 800D or a complete new Obsidian Series. The reason is that the Classified SR-2 Dual LGA1366 Motherboard has a new Form Factor (HPTX) with the measurement 345mm Length x 381mm Width.

So wouldn't it be the culminating event to see a Liquid Cooled Classified SR-2 Dual LGA1366 Motherboard inside a Corsair Obsidian Chassis, at least the way I see it. While you are scratching your head around the drawing board (CAD screen) , don't forget to make space for some high performance watercooling components too.

Here is some good foundation Designed by "Mick64" on xtremesystems.org to develop further on.

One more thing, please make it ASAP http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_run.gif since I already ordered my Intel Core i7-980X Extreme Edition Processor and have major thoughts http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_thinking.gif about Classified SR-2 Dual LGA1366 Motherboard.

The SR-2 is an awesome board. But, unless I am mistaken it is not going to support your Core i7 980X. It is for Xeons only:

Hello Yellowbeard!

Yes you are SO right about that my friend! http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_doubleup.gif

But the thing was before i got some answers on my email to EVGA I tought that it was possible to run i7-980X on EVGA Classified SR-2. The reason I believed that was the overclocking web log (see link below) by "nickshih", where he run the i7-980X on SR-2. But conclusively I understood that it has to be a special edition of i7-980X as well as SR-2 motherboard.

But I just got in contact with my CPU provider and ask him if it's possible to change the ordering from the i7-980X to a Intel Xeon X5680 3.33 GHz with 6 Cores & 12 Threads, 12MB L3 Cache, Intel QPI, LGA1366 Processor.

So we have to see further on for the outcome of this. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_thinking.gif

One positive thing that I read about concerning EVGA Classified SR-2 motherboard is that you can run with only 1 CPU (see link below), and then when the economy growing stronger you just buy the second one.

Oh gush what time flue's fast, it's wayyyyy after midnight!

Take good care of you Yellowbeard!

Good night and bye bye http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/remake/bye.gif

Hello again Yellowbeard.

I got some news for you! http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/grin.gif

I canceled my order on the Intel Core i7-980X processor, instead I ordered this.......

1 - EVGA Classified SR-2 Motherboard. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/declare.gif

2 - Intel Xeon X5680 Processor. http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/declare.gif

So now theres only one problem, Is the SR-2 motherboard going to fit in the Obsidian 800D (after some modifications)? Or do I need to look for another solution? http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_thinking.gif

Not that there is anything to complain about, but I wish Corsair would build the Obsidian series on a little more open bases so theres room for wider options.

Hopefully Corsair will come out with a little bigger chassis based on HPTX form factor (EVGA SR-2) with room for high performance water cooling.

Heres some links for Corsair just as source of inspiration.http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists/just_cuz/JC_doubleup.gif

Take good care, see you soon i hope.

Unfortunately our case will only support up to an EATX form factor motherboard, and we have not attempted any modification to fit the HPTX form factor of the SR-2 board. I would suggest that you get a list of compatible cases directly from EVGA.
