CORSAIR TWINX-1GB XL222 problem

Recommended Posts

Just bought the ram last saturday at lowyat robyncom . my system spec winXP pro SP1, P4-2.8E, CoolerMaster Jet7, DFI 865PE-AL, powercolor Radeon 9600pro, 350W pure power supply. before i buy this ram, I had try using my friend corsair 512mb pc3200 pt and is running in very good condition. and I can overclock it at 3.36Ghz with no problem. I had so much confident with this CORSAIR TWINX-1GB XL222 ram that I purchase. After changing my old ram Kingston pc3200. I found out that this ram is not as good as pc3200 pt. and is not a good overclocking ram too. I had try many many setting to get the pc stable with min timing but fail everytime. Setting at - 2.2.2.5 - 200mhz, 2.7vm - o.k - 2.2.2.5 - 203mhz, 2.7vm - o.k - higher then this is not bootable or when windows starting it had when to blue screen, Stated bios memory error, dumping file, need to inform your vendor. Setting at - 3.3.5.2 - 200mhz, 2.7vm - o.k up to - 222mhz - 3.3.5.2 - higher then this mhz will have screen artifact  problem but will not crash the O.S.. Any one out there know what is the problem, because I really want to fully utilize this ram.... thks.

These modules are rated at Cass 2-2-2-5 at DDR400 and it sounds like they are able to run at these speeds with out problems! In addition, a clock speed of 222 MHz would be 3.552 GHz on the CPU and may suggest that the CPU is holding you back. I would suggest you test the modules in another system as well to verify this! But I do not see a problem with the modules from what you have posted!

I had use the same CPU under my same system using Corsair PC3200 PT - 3.3.3.8 @ default vm but can o/c @ 3.36GHz and very stable . Could it be my motherboard giving this problem? thks for your prompt reply.
Maybe, but more than likely it's the CPU! I would try these at the same settings as you tried the other modules and see if you get the same results!
One more thing I did not mention is when I set the timing to default 2.2.2.5. and try to push up to 204-5. when rebooting my motherboard stated bios check sum error. please reflash your bios. I think I had a bad ram because using the same setting as 3.3.3.8, I cannot even get the same result as using my friend corsair PC3200 PT module. What a big disappointment after paying such an amount and what I'm getting. Any more solution?

I would suggest testing them on another system if at all possible! In addition, please do not double post! You have posted this 4 times! We would be happy to try and replace the modules for you but there may be some other issue from what you have posted!

SOrry about the double post. :sigh!: Second I had tested with my friend pc using this module. The friend with the corsair ram I borrow. it did not work at his pc either. :[pouts:

If you just want to try and replace them, please follow the link in my signature and we will be happy to do so! However, these modules are very aggressive and many MB's may have problems running them with these timings! In other words, from what you have posted, there could be some other problem or issue preventing you from running at a higher clock frequency! But I would need to know more about your system configuration! Make and model of: MB, PSU, Graphics Card, and CPU speed and it's FSB?

Kenny? or someone else? try to talk to them, they are very helpful person :) me and my friends bought many things from them also :) u should try to talk to them 1st :) they will help you :) good luck :)

And was indicated 350W pure power double fan. Anyway I had try to push to 2.8VM before and my motherboard don't have 2.75VM setting. System doesn't boot at this voltage. It will go in blue screen. As stated. I bought this Ram because is timing on 2.2.2.5 and I really wanted it to run at this timing. and if I needed to run on other setting is doesn't make sense right. After paying for Rm1400.00. Anyway I appreciate that someone like you came forward to help. thks.

I really wanted to run it at 2.2.2.5 and I willing to change any part of my hardware if it can get it stable.

Well as apexi78 stated a 350 Watt PSU might not be enough for this configuration! In addition, I believe that you stated setting the Dim Voltage to higher then 2.7 Volts caused the system to be un-stable! Is that correct? If so that might suggest a MB or bios problem, as these modules should be set to 2.7x Volts or up to 2.9 Volts with out problems! In addition, there have been a few using the video card you have and reporting that setting the AGP voltage to 1.6 Volts will help! I would suggest setting the AGP voltage to 1.6 Volts and see if that makes any difference! And if apexi78 is close to you he has offered to test them in his Nforce2 MB! That may not be a bad idea. At least it might help you to identify if it’s your MB or the memory!

I will had to reset the bios to access the setting once I'll do that. What motherboard do you recommand for this module. How about Abit IC7-Max3?
No Problem! But I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7x Volts and make sure it has the latest bios when you get the MB!
Just to let you know that I founded out the 1,3 dimm slot faulty. When I slot in the module to 2,4, it can run more stable @ 207 using default SPD. And @ 233 using Cas latency 2 - Cas delay 3, Cas percharge 3, Cycle time 5. but this is not my expectation. I'm going to purchase the Abit IC7 Max 3 tomorrow. So will post the result once everything is completed. Ah! One more thing. My PSU is VAV V-Tech 400W. (did not really check on it previously) Sorry about the mistake.

Well I when to pick up the IC7-Max3 today. and I drop by to Robyncom and the Guy is so kind enough to change the module for me. When I test the new module with the DFI board nothing new, same issue. O.K here's the good and bad part. Bad one first. Now I know that the Low timing module doesn't do well on overclocking. Max that I manage to reach @ 210fsb. Nothing can go beyond this. Here's the good part. :sunglasse Anyway thks for your help. ---------------------- CPU-Z version 1.23 ---------------------- CPUID Output ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Number of CPUs 2 (1 Physical) CPU #1 APIC ID 0 Name Intel Pentium 4 Code name Prescott Specification Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Family/Model/Stepping F33 Extended Family/Model 0/0 Package mPGA-478 Core Stepping C0 Technology 0.09µ Instructions Sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 Clock Speed 3433.7 MHz Clock multiplier x14.0 Front Side Bus Frequency 245.3 MHz Bus Speed 981.1 MHz L1 Data Cache 16 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L1 Trace Cache 12 Kµops, 8-way set associative L2 Cache 1024 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L2 Speed 3433.7 MHz (Full) L2 Location On Chip L2 Data Prefetch Logic yes L2 Bus Width 256 bits CPU #2 (logical unit) APIC ID 1 Name Intel Pentium 4 Code name Prescott Specification Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz Family/Model/Stepping F33 Extended Family/Model 0/0 Package mPGA-478 Core Stepping C0 Technology 0.09µ Instructions Sets MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3 Clock Speed 3433.7 MHz Clock multiplier x14.0 Front Side Bus Frequency 245.3 MHz Bus Speed 981.1 MHz L1 Data Cache 16 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L1 Trace Cache 12 Kµops, 8-way set associative L2 Cache 1024 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L2 Speed 3433.7 MHz (Full) L2 Location On Chip L2 Data Prefetch Logic yes L2 Bus Width 256 bits Chipset ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Northbridge Intel i875P rev.
