Can you add sound proofing foam etc to Corsair Graphite Series 780T ?

Trying to decide between a Fractal Design Define XL R2 £119 (Before tax) and a Corsair Graphite Series 780T £189 (Before Tax).

The main advantage of the Fractal case other than being a lot cheaper is the sound proofing.

I really like the Corsair case, but the sound proofing is not so good. But was wondering about a customising cheat like possibly adding sound dampening foam sheets.

Has anyone tried this or know if it is possible and if so how effective and how expensive would it be? Plus how would it be done to even it up with the Fractal or Be quiet cases

You certainly can. Best bet might be the type formerly used in car stereo systems, door panels etc. It is thin and relatively inexpensive. You would not need a lot. There probably are some PC specific "packages", but I would carefully price check. The material is still the same.

Now how effective it will be is a bit of mystery. These things are often better at blocking some frequencies over others and I don't really know what noise you are trying to soften. Something like a rattly HDD vibrating into the desk will not be lessened by dampening sheets. They likely will help will fan noise or AIO pump noise, but you still have openings in the case. I suppose you could block those as well, but there is likely to be a temperature penalty in exchange.

I have been doing a ***load of research to look at a custom build via Pc Specialist or Scan with specs like:

  • Gigbyte x399 Designare Ex Motherboard

  • 32GB (4x8GB) Corsair Vengeance LPX 2933MHz
  • (with the intention to double this when I get more money at a later date)

  • Quadro RTX 4000 GPU

  • Pair of 2xSeagate Barracuda Pro 4tb drives in a Raid 1 Mirror Array

  • Samsung NVA 970 Plus 1tb M23 SSD Drive

  • Noctua NH-U14S Ultra-Quiet Slim CPU Cooler with 140mm NF-A15 fan for Intel & AMD CPU's

  • Silent Silent 1000W Corsair RMx, Modular, Silent, 80PLUS Gold - Dual GPU

  • Windows 10 Pro

  • 3 years Warrantee inc 1 year onsite

But the Case has come down to the Fractal Design Define XL R2 or the looking way cooler Corsair Graphite 780T.

I have not tested these but looking at reviews the fractal appears much quieter which would be good seeing as it would be in my bedroom.

So was wondering about how to level the playing field with quieter fans or foam for the Cosair to quiet it down so have cake and eat it so to speak providing said sound proofing dont cost much
