jchambers2586
I have a HX1050 I hate the fan in this PSU can I install a quieter fan in the unit?
wytnyt
you own it so yes but... you likely would compromise cooling ability plus void any warranty...
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted October 18, 2014 Corsair Employee Share Posted October 18, 2014 Also, the wiring can be tricky. If you're good with a DMM and figuring out what wire's what, then don't worry about it.
jchambers2586
the FANS in the HX1050 units are leassy loud.
wytnyt
any fan that truly works and provide adequate cooling will be loud which is why Ive shifted my PSU's over to the integrated models where the fan spins only when needed...
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted October 19, 2014 Corsair Employee Share Posted October 19, 2014 "Leassy loud"? What language is that? Is it loud by nature or is it loud because there's something wrong with it (out of balance, bad bearing, etc.)? Like wytnyt said... the fan is engineered to keep the PSU cool. If you change it for any reason other than it being a bad fan, you risk damage to the PSU by overheating which, in turn, becomes damage to your PC's other components. If you have thousands of dollars worth of computer components and think that rigging the PSU with a quiet fan is the cheap way to a quiet PC, I'd say that is a very dumb idea. Replace the PSU with one that is engineered to be quiet in the first place like an RM, HXi or AXi.
traxevc
PSU caps can retain deadly charge even when powered off. Do not do this. If the fan doesn't work properly, RMA that thing. HX1000s have 5 years warranty or something.
