Fire! HX750W with a 500R Case

I turn the computer on and the case went on fire, i just bought it a week ago. I bought the PSU a year ago if i remember correctly.

I switch the mains off and opened the case to discover that the cable that connects the 500r with the 4 pin molex was burnt and stuck on the case.

I disconnected the molex and boot up again and the machine works just fine.

What should i do now?

I don't have any electrical tools to test the molex and don't want to connect my HD to it for obvious reasons.

I am really terrified about that, i leave the machines on at night after work doing rendering and other stuff. If i didn't notice it might have burnt the whole office. !

Things seem a bit more complicated ... After the fire i installed ai suite ii and start recording voltages and temps. There are some mistakes in the voltage ... I am not sure if it is Ai suites recording software problems but here are the warnings

[04/23/2013 at 05:30 am] +5V 8.600 Abnormal

[04/23/2013 at 05:30 am] +5V 5.040 Normal

[04/23/2013 at 06:26 am] +5V 0.000 Abnormal

[04/23/2013 at 06:26 am] +5V 5.040 Normal

[04/23/2013 at 08:18 am] +12V 0.000 Abnormal

[04/23/2013 at 08:18 am] +12V 12.096 Normal

[04/24/2013 at 11:51 pm] Vcore 0.120 Abnormal

[04/24/2013 at 11:51 pm] Vcore 1.050 Normal

[04/25/2013 at 06:15 pm] Vcore 0.006 Abnormal

[04/25/2013 at 06:16 pm] Vcore 1.142 Normal

[04/25/2013 at 07:05 pm] CPU -121.0 Abnormal

[04/25/2013 at 07:05 pm] CPU 30.0 Normal

I filed an rma for the case and psu. I havent' heard back yet.

It seems dangerous. It also did a vcore 2.000 v. The machine is in stock speeds !

There have been a number of reports with AIsuite recording or reporting abnormal voltages for what ever reason. If the 5v rail was actually at 8v you would have had another fire. :) And the ones that are reading way low , the machine would have never started. I would try using another monitoring program such as HWmonitor from CPUz and see what things look like then. Just make sure to uninstall AIsuite before installing HWmonitor so the two softwares don't clash with each other.

If they all look normal then , i would consider keeping the PSU. But if you still want to RMA it I don't think it would be a problem.

I believe i should RMA myself to a world where machines work. :)

Isn't a bit peculiar though? maybe the PSU is OK i just don't want the next victim to be my motherboard! I am testing now with HWmonitor and OCCT now, It shows that the cpu is at 66c but it feels in the case like 30 even if i put a real thermometer next to the back plate it goes to 44. The fans doing spikes at 45000rpm!!! Jet engine ... but i assume that is a bad reading. And some temps (tempin 4 and 3 ) spike at 167c from 27c !!!which is completely wrong. I have to let it run for a few more hours and see how it goes. The voltage spikes occur twice per day sometimes 3.

Do i pay for the RMA postage? I bought the 500r case on the 9th of April from Amazon. I believe the PSU was a bit more than a year ago, as part of a pc-specialist (UK system builders) combo. The case will be very very expensive to post. There is some darker patch on the case from the smoke and melted plastic. I took off the plastic, but the rubber flap for the cables has a mark.

How does it work with RMA tickets will they come back to me soon ?

LOL...I have had those days myself!

Sort of, but it's only the ASUS MB's with AIsuite that are reading incorrectly. I have not seen one case of a Gigabyte board or any other for that fact that show these weird readings. There was a recent thread where multiple users have chimed in all complaining of the same weird readings from AISuite. I'll continue to search for that thread . But I completely understand your concern and don't blame you one bit.

Just to be safe I would go ahead and have the PSU replaced too. This way you can remove all doubt about the PSU readings.

What has me puzzled are your fan speed readings and temps being off. Most of the AISuite problems mostly involve voltages. I don't recall any of them with abnormal fan speed readings or temps.

Generally you would pay for shipping on first RMA's and Corsair in most cases will pay for shipping on products that are less than 30 days old . But since your issue is pretty rare they may direct you differently since you are going to have more than one product replaced.

Normal RMA's take between 7-10 business days to complete and in most cases that are outside of the US or overseas you can add a couple of more days to that. You could always ask for an advanced replacement (which they may do for you anyway, But I personally can't say for sure) Since your case is pretty unique it may be best to call them by phone and see what you can work out with CS as far as getting things replaced for you and also inquire about shipping charges.

Since you are UK based you can install SKYPE and make the call to the toll free number for nothing.

Yeah, thats only a week, and they are closed on weekends.! It may take them some time. You could always call CS by phone and they would be able to give you an update. But i would suspect 7-10 business days or so to complete.
