Default mixing old mem with newer mem possible?

i have this 32GB "CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10 ", purchased back in 10/2012.

it is in an ASUS Sabertooth x79 mobo.

wanting to increase the mem by 16GB or 32GB.

will it be possible to find new mem that is compatible with the old? or am i going to have to purchase all new 64GB ram if i want to increase ram on this mobo?

It is possible that you can get a new kit with the same specs/timings and everything will be fine. However, Corsair will guarantee compatibility only when you buy a matched set.

understood. i did find a new unopened box of the same mem kit on ebay. its almost a 100usd than what i paid back in 2012. ouch, though ram had gone down in price. ;-)

but, as you mentioned, that would be less problematic. casual searches hasn't produced new 32GB kit with same specs, so far...

thanks for your help and reply
