Barzai
Hello there, A couple of months ago, I`ve had some problems with 2 of my HDDs (one of them a SSd, actually). The HDD started making a repetitive sound and was dead outright. The SSD (Corsair Neutron) somehow had its encryption messed up, so the password wouldn`t work. Formatting it fixed everything, though. The thing crashed again, however, and this time I`m not so lucky that a simple format works. I was using it as my Linux partition, and it suddenly started giving many input-output errors as well as saying some files were read-only. After rebooting it (perhaps foolishly), it wouldn`t boot. So here`s how the situation is: it is recognized by the BIOS, but it can`t boot. Windows won`t start with the SSD connected to the motherboard, though (it gets stuck on the loading screen). Linux takes a while to start but manages to do it. Right now I`m on a Live USB. It is listed along with the other HDDs, but it shows as having only 2MB. Here`s the output of a "smartctl -a /dev/sda": [root@localhost-live liveuser]# smartctl -a /dev/sda smartctl 6.5 2016-05-07 r4318 [x86_64-linux-4.8.6-300.fc25.x86_64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-16, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Device Model: Corsair Neutron XT SSD Serial Number: 152380010001039104FF Firmware Version: SAFC01.4 User Capacity: 2,064,384 bytes [2.06 MB] Sector Size: 512 bytes logical/physical Rotation Rate: Solid State Device Form Factor: 2.5 inches Device is: Not in smartctl database [for details use: -P showall] ATA Version is: ACS-2 (minor revision not indicated) SATA Version is: SATA 3.1, 6.0 Gb/s (current: 1.5 Gb/s) Local Time is: Mon Feb 27 13:25:16 2017 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. Plugging it after the boot won`t work as well, since it won`t show up. Any clues would help immensely. I`m unsure if the SSD is past the warranty time (I bought it on Oct 2015, Corsair says the 5 year warranty is effective after April 2016, but I don`t know what that really means in my case). Thank you!
Administrators Technobeard Posted February 27, 2017 Administrators Share Posted February 27, 2017 All Neutron drives have a 5 year warranty. Please create a support ticket so that the support team can help you with this.
Barzai
Great to know! I'll probably try to erase it via Linux to see if the SSD revives, if not, I'll contact the support.
