2GB XMS3500LL Pro kit stability problems

Hi, I just purchased a Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 kit. I know its compatible with a Abit NF7-S Rev2.0 with latest BIOS 27, dated 2004-11-22.

The problem is Windows XP SP2 doesn't seem to be stable now since the memory has been installed. Sometimes its stable at the desktop then 10 minutes later it'll reboot as it varies, or if I run a game it'll start loading or soon as it starts the system reboots.

I'm just wondering from what I've read in some reviews if its safe to run this XMS3500LL kit at DDR400 as it runs with a Barton 3200+ (3 Years old).

As the reviewers ran theirs at DDR400.

The previous memory I had installed was the TWINX1024-3200XLPro (2x512) kit and is rock stable. I cleared the CMOS for the 2GB DDR XMS3500LL Pro TwinX installation. Installed from banks 3 to 2.

I searched about these forums something about USB Legacy support could cause problems but I'm not sure if these settings exist on the Abit NF7-S...

The BIOS settings are default:

CPU Operating Speed 3200+

External Clock 200Mhz

Multiplier Factor x11.0

AGP Frequency [66Mhz]

CPU FSB/DRAM Ratio [Auto]

CPU Interface [Disabled]

Power Supply Controller - System default

CPU Core Voltage 1.65v

DDR SDRAM Voltage 2.6v

Chipset Voltage 1.6v

AGP Voltage 1.5v

Memory Timings [Optimal]

Active Precharge Delay [6]

RAS to CAS Delay [3]

RAS Precharge Delay [2]

CAS Latency [2.0]

System BIOS Cachable [Disabled]

Video RAM Cachable [Disabled]

AGP Aperture Size [256MB]

FSB Spread Spectrum [Disabled]

AGP Spread Spectrum [Disabled]

CPU Thermal Throttling [50.0%]

Enhance PCI Performance [Disabled]

CPU Disconnect Function [Enabled]

AGP Data Transfer Rate [8x]

AGP Fast Write Capability [Disabled]

I just hope its a BIOS setting making Windows unstable. As I'm dreading faulty sticks after just getting this kit.

As I was really hoping like the last kit, plug and play and that be it.

Could any experts please advise.

Thanks

That seems to have sorted it, Thanks!

I'm still checking things for stability for the meantime, but Windows and the CS:S stress test now completes itself without blue screening! *touch wood*

Currently running the CPU and memory so its at the proper memory speed.

220 x 10 = 2.200 MHz 220 MHz (DDR440) as the BIOS reports it 438Mhz. Just clarifying this is correct? Timings are still the same as above.

[Edit] It seems to have blue screened yet again while sitting at the Windows desktop, whether its at 200x11 3200+ DDR400 and 220x10 438Mhz.

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000007f (0x00000008, 0x80042000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini090706-02.dmp.

[Edit] would this be wise... running it at 2.5

Q. The 2Gb Corsair Kit says its rated at CAS2.0, is this correct?

A. Yes and no. On AMD systems its actually CAS2.5 but most of the time with 2.8v+ can be run at CAS2.0 for a slight performance increase. However, on Intel systems its CAS2.0 out of the box.
