The Official Corsair Carbide 540 AIR Owners and Builds Thread

Recommended Posts

Now that you have made the switch, what do you think of the 540? How do the 2 cases compare?

Personally, I have never a fan of full tower cases. Bigger is not always better. The 540 has a smaller overall footprint, mainly front to back length and shorter height. This allows me more flexibility to place the desktop in my home office. The amount of internal space and compartmental layout makes building the 540 a breeze. This layout gives several options for cooling/cable management the HAF can only dream about.

In the HAF case, I used a Corsair H80i mounted in the rear fan exhaust. For the 540 case, I switched to an H100i cooler. With the unobstructed air flow, change of CPU coolers, my temps have dropped a noticeable level. I now run the case fans at a lower RPM, and also noticed a drop in the sound level as well. I never understood the idea behind placing the HDD cages directly in the path of air in most case designs.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the most important mod on my build, the removal of the red led's in the Sound Blaster Z(snip goes the warranty). The amount of light these led's output is obnoxious. I planned on replacing them with lower output white led's, but found the sound card works fine with the led's removed.

A nice addition to the 540 would be a dust filter kit.

.....or releasing SP140 fans.

I guess I post in here too??

When the case was released, I had to take a trip down to Akihabara to see if they had one of these available. I got lucky and was able to get my hands on one. The others on display were purchased and waiting pickup. That was a long train ride, and got plenty of looks from people as I blocked half the isle with a large box, but it paid off. I gave my 600T to my friend and swapped the components into my new 540. Eventually, water cooling came.

When I return home, I need to see if I can cut the bottom to fit a 240 or even another 280 radiator.

Looked a lot better without the combs Imo. I'd paint them red. Then wouldn't be so noticeable.

Just had a look and like an idiot I left the plastic layers on. Thanks will take these off and have a look then

Use the combs further back to the point where they can be hidden behind the mobo tray. I understand these are the fabric-type sleeves, and they're not rigid, but I know you can make it look well organized. I need to get me some of those in the future to help with behind-the-scenes routing.

Right I added a sharkoon fan and a couple of cables redone. Got rid of my Creative Soundblaster Z as I did not like the light and put in the reconn3d with a modified backplate from E22. This is the final update. Got a spare 7970 Matrix plat but the games I p[lay I do not need to go crossfire. The BHD and joint operations could almost be played with any old laptop.

This is now final and thinking about doing a watercool version next maybe in a white 540 case. One for the Mrs.

hi before i post my build pics, i want to add some vinyl for the pimp-de-grace

but i have a few questions,

1- at the back of the case, did u lay the vinyl down them cut the holes from the back of the case?

2- what did u do with the brackets that support the drive sleds? cut them out, hammer then down, or bend them out fo the way?

ty for the help

1.) Laid the vinyl down then used a heat gun which helped as it was easier to cut. When you use the heat you will see exactly where it has to be cut out.

2.) Brackets I cut out with a dremmel which made life easier.

Hey all - I recently decided to take the plunge on a 540 Air and also picked up an H100i - waiting on the 540 Air to finish shipping at this point. Just curious as I've watched multiple videos and browsed quite a few pictures, etc. on the system.

One thing I can't seem to figure out is why when using the default fans (or 2 custom fans) with the H100i in this case, that some individuals put the fans below the radiator and some mount them on the top of the radiator. Is there any reasoning behind this if I'm using the default H100i and the 540 Air (no extra fans, no custom fans for the color effects, etc. at this point)?

Personally, I think it looks cleaner with the fans mounted on top of the radiator, but just curious if there's a performance difference or something else I'm missing - as when looking at most of the pictures the general system setup looks identical (e.g. I can't find a reason for mounting one way vs. the other) aside from the fan configuration with the radiator.

Thanks :)
