Tips for Commander Pro with the 780T

Hi,

I am about to start a new build with 780T.

I also purchased a Commander Pro controller that I am primarily going to be using the additional usb 2.0 headers.

However, my concerns are thus:

How do I go about utilizing the Commander Pro?

Do I forgo the front panel fan connectors and go directly to the Commander Pro?

Is there a setup that allows me to use both the front panel connector while also using the Commander Pro?

I will also be using the H100 v2 and a dongle link for the HXi series PSU.

In case others need to know I will be using the ASUS ROG Extreme VI as my motherboard.

According to the manual, the case comes with AF140L fans. Those are 3-pin, DC-controlled fans, so the case's built-in fan controller operates by changing the voltage supplied to the fans. The Commander Pro can do the same thing ... but with much, much finer control and with fan speeds controlled based on temperatures, rather than requiring you to push a button when you need extra cooling. While you could use both (some fans connected to the C-Pro and some to the case fan hub), the C-Pro is, IMHO, a much better option.

Another thing to consider ... your motherboard only has 1 internal USB fan header. (Asus seems to have gotten stingy with them lately.) You'll need that for the Commander Pro and then plug in the cooler and the PSU into the Commander Pro's USB ports. So you'll have no place for the front-panel USB ports on your case. An option would be to get a standard mini USB cable for the Commander Pro and route it outside the case and into a standard USB port on the I/O panel of the motherboard. Or you could get an internal USB 2.0 hub (like this: https://www.amazon.com/NZXT-Internal-Controller-Black-AC-IUSBH-M1/dp/B01IFGFTJ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1512190954&sr=8-1&keywords=nzxt+internal+usb+hub) and use that. I have one and it works well, even if the magnet is really weak and it has a molex power connector.

Thanks DevBiker, I re-reviewed the motherboard last night and saw that it's I/O internal did only have 1 USB 2.0 header.

I went ahead and purchased the extended USB 2.0 header :biggrin:
