PSU: Corsair TX750M

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3P

I'm having problems with starting up by itself. I just get 2 seconds of light and that's about it besides a small buzzing noise from the PSU.

Here's my other components:

CPU: Intel Core i7-2600k

SSD (primary storage device):Corsair Force Series 3 CSSD

HDD (secondary storage device):Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB

Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB

Case: Corsair 600T

GPU: XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970

DVD burner: MSI 22X Internal Burner

I made sure I plugged in everything right but the manual for the motherboard says that I have to make sure that the 12V input is inserted, otherwise the motherboard won't start but I couldn't refer to my PSU manual because I didn't receive any and so I tried looking through the supplies that the PSU came with but I only see a blue end of a connector that says "TH/HX Series Only" and the other end says "PCI-E." I assumed that it'll be alright because it didn't have a divider in it but when I turned it on, I didn't even get any lights. Just the same buzzing noise from my previous attempt...

I have the PSU hooked up to both of my hard drives, one in my DVD burner, one hooked up on my motherboard (the huge 12-14 pin connector on the bottom right if you're looking at it with the I/O on the upper-left corner), and two to my GPU.

Any help and/or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you listed all the cables you have connected, you missed the eight pin power connector for the mother board. That connector is close to the I/O panel connector jacks, very close to the top of the board, just below a screw hole in the upper left hand corner of the board. That cable provides power to the CPU, and must be connected for the board and CPU to work. It may look similar to an eight pin PCI-E cable, but it's not and they are not interchangeable.

Your PS has a cable for that connector, it is one of the non-modular cables, with a connector on it that can be split into two 2 x 2 pin connectors, or one 2 x 4 pin connector. Your board needs all eight pins connected to it for power, check your boards manual or the picture on it's product page for more information and to find its location.

Well the thing is the manual for the motherboard says I need that to be connected, so you're correct but I forgot to add that I connected that from the PSU to the motherboard with a cable that says "TH/HX" only into the motherboard and the other end that's labled "PCI-E" to the PSU. Once I started it up I didn't even get any lights, just the buzzing of the PSU. Without that 12V input, I get at least 2 seconds of light from the motherboard.

Yes, you used the video card power cable for the CPU power, which has the power and ground wires reversed compared to the correct CPU power cable. As HOOD and I have mentioned, the CPU power cable is not a modular cable, and it will NOT be labeled "PCI-E" whatsoever.

It should be one of the non modular cables. Should be labeled cpu and if not its the only 8 pin connector coming from the psu. Not a 6+2 pin. Or it may be a 4+4 pin. The connectors that say pcie are for graphics cards and are not the same thing as the cpu power connector.

Alright, I tried to find the connector but the thing about it is that when I do use the connector with the end that says "CPU," it doesn't fit because it has a different pattern... maybe I just have to take another look... Thanks a lot for the input Parsec and HoodedAssault :D

I'll post responses around the same time tomorrow :)

Check again and be sure the latch on the plug is lined up with the correct side of the jack on the mother board. It should fit fine. The cable plug is the split type, and must be inserted carefully. Hard to do with the board mounted in the case, and with not much slack in the cable, but it should fit.

Shweet! It works guys! Thank you all for your input :D Now I just gotta order a DVD burner with SATA capability lol the motherboard I received doesn't have a PATA or anywhere I can connect the other end of the IDE connector (I made sure this time).

Great, glad you figured it out. Yes, PATA connections on mother boards are almost 100% gone these days, I have an older board (socket 775) that does not even have one. The chance of finding one on the latest boards is zero.

DVD burners are very cheap these days, you can get a good one for ~$20 on line or even at some regular stores (Microcenter has sales on them right now.) Many PC users prefer USB flash drives instead of optical disk drives, which might be why they are so cheap, plus BluRay drives are hot now.

Lol, well I just went the whole 9 yards and got a BluRay burner.... and I got a motorola modem with DOCSIS 3.0 capability (because the ISP's modem sux much). I almost spent about $200 so far but it's going to be worth it once it comes through :D Thanks Parsec!
