nickaugust
I can't mount my r60 in linux via USB. It's formatted ext4 with a couple partitions. The wierd thing is I can plug it in via SATA and mount it just fine. Also I can install lilo to the mbr and boot it via SATA or USB! In FAT format it is mountable in OSX over USB. But when I plug it via USB linux doesn't give it a sd[a-z] assignment but rather sg0, which is "not a block device" according to mount. Heres the dmesg: [ 816.578030] ehci_hcd 0000:00:0f.5: port 4 reset error -110 [ 816.578053] hub 1-0:1.0: hub_port_status failed (err = -32) [ 816.846733] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 11 [ 816.997730] usb 1-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 817.009651] scsi4 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices [ 817.050326] usb-storage: device found at 11 [ 817.050326] usb-storage: waiting for device to settle before scanning [ 822.048191] scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access Corsair CSSD-R60GB2 PQ: 1 ANSI: 0 [ 822.048706] scsi 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 [ 822.049623] usb-storage: device scan complete and lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 013: ID 1b1c:1ab8 Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1286:2001 Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. mtilsted2
I am sorry Nick but I would suggest you contact the maker of the version of Linux you are using. I am having the exact same problem. The disk can't be mounted with usb on linux. The problem is that Linux is not creating the /dev/sd* device needed. I have tested with 3 different usb disks which are working fine, so it's not a general software problem. And I have tried to mount the disk on 3 different computers without success so its not a problem with the computer. (And the disk is working fine when using usb with Windows, except that it is called a fixed disk which it clearly is not). A much better description of the problem including debug output can be seen at http://superuser.com/questions/225314/linux-usd-disk-just-create-sg-device But it seems there is a bug in the firmware on the disk where it set scsi_level=0 which seems to cause problems. Did you ever get it to work? ps: I have tested the disk with Fedora 13, Fedora 14 and the newest Ubuntu. And they all have exactly the same problem.
