HOODedAssault
Wondering how much power can be pushing threw 1 of the sata power cables coming off my 1050hx. Im currently running my ssd, a 500gb hdd, 2x200mm fans, 120mm fan, and my dvd drive off 1 of the modular sata power leads with 4 connectors on it. Think this may be drawing a lot of current through 1 wire. Before anyone says it I have a small sata to 4 pin molex adapter to connect the fans. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted April 10, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 10, 2012 it is about 18 amps per dongle on the 4 Pin molex and about the same for S-ATA power cables, so it should be no problem.
HOODedAssault
Really, that much. I didnt know how much power the hard drives use. I know the fans are probably less than 1 amp all together. 18 amps is a ton. Thanks for the info.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted April 10, 2012 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 10, 2012 It is physics the wires used for these cables are capable of about 18 Amps (216 Watts @ 12 Volts) HDD's are normally about 30-50 Watts per drive for a spinning HDD and SSD's are much less and yes you are about right fans, they are about a max of 1-2 amps for high end fans and most generic fans are less less than 1 amp at about a 1/2 of an amp.
