cortmans
I’m doing a new build, and I am reusing a PSU I already had, the HX1000i. I wanted to know if that power supply is overkill for the system in my specs. Please note that I do intend to upgrade both my CPU and graphics card down the line. Thanks. Add your components to a build configuration in PCPartPicker. That will provide you an estimate of your maximum power usage. Is the HX1000i overkill? Probably. It's amazing how little power modern systems consume, especially at idle. You might get 40-50% of capacity at full load so that leaves you a TON of room to grow. It also puts your right around the sweet spot for efficiency. So that's not a bad thing.
Corsair Mike
Hi Cortmans, That HX1000i will give you plenty of head room for future upgrades. While it is more wattage than you need with your current system, over shooting wattage on a PSU just gives you room to grow. Have fun upgrading
