Setting up sli with AX850

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am planning to get another gtx 980 ti to setıp an sli with my msi mpower x99a motherboard . I assume power will be enough but my question is about the connections.

This is the current setup of my system.

There is 3 empth 6 pin connector. Can i simply power new gpu with these 3. Or should i replace jpwr2 and jpwr3 to these empty slots to open space for gpu ? Does it make any difference ?

It doesn't have to be SLI by the way, i just wanted to setup this for rendering purposes.

Thank you!

You can't use the 6-pins for PCIe or EPS12V. They're wired differently with different voltages (+3.3V, +5V).

The AX850 is older and was designed without SLI of two higher power cards in mind and was released before many boards had multiple CPU power connectors (ATX12V and EPS12V on the same board). If you have a motherboard that needs both 4-pin ATX12V and 8-pin EPS12V power AND four PCIe connectors, I strongly suggest getting a newer PSU.
