rustypwns
I rma'd my first HS1 headset due to the crackling sound on both speakers when bass is present, and I got a new one. Now the right one is crackling and I spoke to a friend that fixed it. It's apparently a driver issue on win 64bit. I'm not going to RMA again because it's not a hardware issue. What's the fix for it? I was told you can fix it in the windows control panel under sound settings. Something you must check or uncheck?

Mavericksan
I rma'd my first HS1 headset due to the crackling sound on both speakers when bass is present, and I got a new one. I was told you can fix it in the windows control panel under sound settings. Something you must check or uncheck? Crackling can be caused by numerous factors (i.e. Sample Rate, Loud Volume, etc.) and playing with each of these settings until the audio doesn't crackle is hit and miss. However, I'm pretty sure your friend must have adjusted the Sample Rate (Control Panel>Sound>Properties(of Output to HS1A)>Advanced) since this is the only thing that has a true respect to "driver issues" and can be adjusted through the CP. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 8, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 8, 2011 I would check the settings in the Corsair Audio Panel and try and adjust or play with the settings I have seen that happen when some Codecs are used but please check the settings and experiment with the settings, and if you cannot figure it out please contact our Tech support when you are in front of your system they will do their best to help you with that. Sotiri
I updated my Realtek driver yesterday to R2.64 and then last night noticed the crackling. I uninstalled/reinstalled the HS1 software, and although it made a huge improvement, it's still happening. What settings do you guys recommend I change that will have the least effect on quality? Thanks!
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 22, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 22, 2011 What are the exact settings you have set, have you changed any of the settings? And have you tried a different settings to test like a different default CODEC?
Sotiri
Thanks Ram Guy, but it seems after a couple days the bug worked itself out. If it comes back though I'll try rolling back the driver.

Xyvotha
hi all, just registered to share my experience: Not exactly the same as the OP, but could help the Corsair team as additional info: My HS1 were working perfectly until I upgraded MB/CPU thus reinstalled Win7 x64. I got the latest drivers (1.00.0007, previous system had 1.00.0005) and noticed the crackling with any type of content (system sounds, flash movies, .mp4/wmv, etc.). This didn't happen with the Audigy+Speakers I have in the same system. I tried uninstalling the 1.00.0007 drivers, rebooted, then installed 1.00.0005, rebooted. Had the same crackling phenomenon. Then I checked USB ports. I always used my monitor's USB hub and had no problem with that before. What I did was check which Motherboard port was the monitor plugged in. I discovered it was a USB 3.0 port, so I switched to a 2.0/1.1 port. Voila! crackling was gone! I was about turn the page there, but before someone ask (and for the sake of science :D:) I tried to plug the HS1 directly into that USB 3.0 port: no problem at all! So, in my particular case it seems that USB 3.0 port + 2.0 hub don't mix well for HS1. Perhaps what some people are experiencing is related to front (case) ports? could their troubles be solved plugging the HS1 directly into any back I/O port? just my 0.02 cents. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted December 2, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 2, 2011 Thank you for taking the time to post your comments and yes we have seen some anomalies when using these on an USB 3.0 Port, at this time there is not sufficient information to suggest if the issue is something that we can address in our driver or if there is something in the default USB3 drivers and or firmware that needs to be updated to address that type of issue so for the time being USB-2.0 Ports would be suggested. thrashmagazine
My experiences below: First and foremost my versions: Headset Version: 2.0.0.4 3D Engine: Xear3D Codec: CM6302 Driver Version: 7.0.8.2150 Controller: Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller 1C2D Realtek Driver Versions: R2.62 Windows 7 x64 USB 3.0 port (everything else works fine from it) I experience crackling not all the time but in and out while using skype/gaming. The audio will be fine, then out of know where it will crackle for a minute or so, then go back to normal. Rather annoying but not end of the world. I am not sure what I should try to fix this, I have adjusted audio settings, but since it is intermittent its very tough to tell if a setting works without waiting until I hear it fail again. Not sure what I should do about it, any thoughts?
mundox
I am also having this crackling and popping issues. It happens when watching videos and playing (bf3, has some weird distortion going on in the background, it ain't there if I use my old Gamecom 777 HS) playing mp3s in winamp is not affected for some reason. Watching movies, videos on MPC or youtube is. So went on to trying them on a laptop, no crackling or popping there... so, what gives? It's an Acer Aspire 5920 with win7 32bit, I'm on Win7 64bit. I tried it with where the popping was really easy to notice on my desktop but nowhere to be found on the laptop... on ANY sample rate. OmniNegro
Odd. I have no popping or crackling at all. I played the entire track at my usual 30% volume and at a very high (For myself) 80% too. I have tried it with and without the Dolby headphones option. I use 24 bit, 96Khz 7.1 channel mode. I tried stereo too just to see if that effected it. One thing that may help others is that the first thing I did upon installing my headset and the drivers was to disable the integrated audio and the HDMI passthrough that both AMD and Nvidia pretend is actually a premium soundcard. I notice both the integrated Realtek audio chipset and the Nvidia passthrough for HDMI in your DxDiag. Try disabling them and testing again. If that fails, try touching the metal of the power supply/case to ground yourself. I doubt that will do anything, but it may help determine if there is a grounding fault in the headset for some reason. I wish I could help more, but these are all the worthwhile ideas I can think of at the moment. Good luck to you and everyone else who has this problem. mundox
Tried all of that, even did a clean windows install and the problem still there... meh Ill just go back to my old HS until I can buy something that works or they release some drivers with a fix for this.
