Wierd CPU-Z memory readings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just pushed in 8Gb ram, (2 sets of TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX as they did't have any quad packs at the local store), in my machine to test if I can get any shorter video rendering times in xp64. However even if the system works fine as is, I got a little confused about the readings I get in CPU-Z.

In the SPD tab I get the following info for slot #1:

DDR2

Module Size:2048Mb

Max Bandwith: PC2_5300 (333MHz)

Manufacturer: Corsair

Part Number: VS2GB667D2

Compared to the other 3 slots that show:

DDR2

Module Size:2048Mb

Max Bandwith: PC2_6400 (400MHz)

Manufacturer: Corsair

Part Number: CM2X2048-64005DHX

What gives?

Mixed parts at the factory, wrong CPU-Z readings or should I just ignore it and go get some sleep?

TIA

/FMG

Hi again,

I did as you requested and it still reports stick #1 as something else.

However it seems that CPU-Z is also flawed in some way as I had the default BIOS settings during the test and it shows the CPU multiplier as 6 instead of the default 9 which is the number also shown by Core Temp.

EDIT: The multiplier 6 was a result of the enabled speedstep in the default BIOS setting, my error.

Go figure.

Anyway, as I mentioned in my first post, I have no problems running this setup at 800 so can it be that the stick is just digitally marked wrong?

The marking on the PCB is the same on all 4 sticks 50-00170B-G.

Pic attached.

Sticks go 1 to 4 from left to right (1-3 and 2-4 are paired).

Now I probably should get some sleep.

TIA

Yes, It would seem so. since the markings are identical. I would say that you are fine.

Does the module with the VS SPD info run to spec? If it runs well and meets spec it will not be an issue. The base SPD info is primarily there to allow you to boot at defaults into bios and then manually set the required speed and timings. In any event, we will replace the modules if you'd like. However, if it runs fine personally I would not hassle with exchanging it unless it is convenient for you to do so since you bought it locally. Let us know if we can help.

Thanks for your replies,

I've spoken to my local store and they said they will replace the sticks so I guess I'll do that, just in case.

Out of curiosity, CPU-Z/memory shows dual channel mode at my current settings.

The only things I changed in the bios was the multiplier and FSB.

8 x 370 = 2960.

Your above attachment shows single channel mode. You have dual now? Can you resend a new attachment?
