do11in2
Hi , I need some help please. I used to have 2 x 10,000 rpm hard drives setup in raid 0. One failed so I bought 2 F60's to raid. After fitting them I found that the raid configurator no longer appeared (I dont think it recognises these drives) and I can only run the drives in AHCI. I am not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Yellowbeard
These drives work just fine in RAID with the Intel controller. Are you using them on the Intel ICH10-R or a secondary controller on your board?
do11in2
The optional rom on the main board intel ICH9. Is there a way to update that rom or use a different controller? I have already flashed the bios to the newest version.
Yellowbeard
ICH9-R and ICH10-R are virtually identical. Starting at the point at which you press your power button, how are you trying to add these drives to the RAID controller and create an array? Is your controller still in RAID mode? do11in2
Entering the bios and changing the controller to raid then saving and exiting the bios. The next step would be to enter the raid controller (ctrl i) to set them up as an array in raid 0. However that optional rom that lets me setup the array is bypassed as I dont think the drives are recognised. At the moment the bios is set to AHCI as I cant get into the ROM to set them up as an array.
Yellowbeard
If the drives are performing normally in AHCI mode, then the problem is not with the drives. You may want to contact the MOBO maker for support. I have seen MOBOs that flash past the CTRL+I prompt too quickly to see. Have you tried powering on , and immediately and repeatedly tapping CTRL+I as soon as you press the power button?
do11in2
Yeah many times heh. I was hoping you were not going to say that as the mobo manufacturer has useless customer service. Thanks for trying

Yellowbeard
Try this, secure erase the SSDs using Parted Magic. Good USB Tool for PM if you want to use it. Then, clear the BIOS, reboot, set the controller to RAID, reboot, and see if you get the CTRL+I prompt.
do11in2
Hmm now I am even more confused I just switched the bios otion to raid and hit ctrl i from reboot (this has not worked previously) and got into the rom. Before entering it showed one of the 2 SSD's and then inside the rom neither of the corsair drivers are listed but my raptor single drive is. do11in2
I have stupidly installed vista on one of the ssd's so I could get online to get some support so I will have to try this tomorrow as I will have to reinstall an OS to my raptor drive leaving me free to play with the SSD's. If you have program to do it, (some are freeware) clone the SSD to the Raptor. That's the fastest way to do it. Also, PM is it's own OS, no Windows/OS needed to use it. do11in2
I have had a replacement drive from WD however that was DoA.It did however let me keep entering the raid controller menu. The only problem was that the SSD's do not appear in the ich9r menu. Surley this is a compatability issue?
Yellowbeard
There is no compatibility issue with our drives and the Intec ICH controllers. You may have a bad drive or a bad Intel controller but, there is compatibility issue. Have you tried the secure erase yet?

You should just use a live CD like UBCD4WIN. Surley this is a compatability issue? Not at all, this is most likely a problem of user configuration. do11in2
I still cant at the moment as I am now awaiting another new drive. Then I willl raid em and install another OS and will be able to secure erase these SSD's.
do11in2
How can it be a user config error if the drives dont appear in the ich9r raid controller menu and raid is on in the bios?
do11in2
(Just a little fmore info). I have checked all my drives on crystal disk and data life guard and they all pass. Synbios
How can it be a user config error if the drives dont appear in the ich9r raid controller menu and raid is on in the bios? Are the drives plugged into the correct ports for the RAID controller? Why is the Raptor drive still plugged into the RAID controller? Have you secure erased the SSDs yet? Yellowbeard
My suggestion is to postpone the conversation until you can secure erase the drives and try them again. Speculation will get us nowhere. ::pirate::
do11in2
All the sata ports on my MB are usable by the raid controller. Please feel free to leave this to Yellowbeard. He is helping me systematically work through the problem.

do11in2
When I entered the menu the ssd drive disappears. I have not done the secure format yet. As I have only just got the other drives back and installed
