BioTech
Good evening, everybody! I am a newcomer to this forum and I am looking to buy my first ever Corsair memory module. I am looking to buy this replacement motherboard ABIT IC7-MAX3, a Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory memory module, and an Intel P4 2.6GHz w/ FSB800. Will this combo work okay? BTW, the MOBO that failed was a 3-yr. old ABIT VT6X4 with a fully functional 866MHz Slot1 Processor (1 yr. old and never been overclocked :~~~~~~~~~~((((((((((((((( ...) and 3 sticks of 512 MB PC133 SDRAM (2 yrs. old and they passed memtest86's 11 tests 11 times each with no errors :((( ...). The MOBO has no problem detecting the HDDs, video card, Zip drive, and CD-ROM drive. However, I keep getting the error message "Error loading operating system" everytime the computer searches all the drives for boot instructions. I have assumed that it was the MOBO because the memory has passed memtest86 many consecutive times, the computer remembers the BIOS, but when I remove all existing hard drives, attach a brand new IDE HDD, then try to install Win2K on it, I still get the message "Error loading operating system" when the installation tries to get into Win2k for the first time, and I don't ever get to enter a Product Key! I have even tried to switch the new HDD from IDE-1 to IDE-2 but to no avail. If I could somehow fix this error, then I would be ever so grateful. If not, then, well, tripling my CPU speed and upgrading to USB 2.0 and AGP 8x can't be all bad... BT PS, I really don't need my new machine to do any high-intensity, or even low-intensity, graphics development or to play even some of the latest greatest PC games with awesome graphics. I just need a PC that will allow me to use Microsoft Office and print occasional documents. BioTech
I have Windows 2000 installed. The computer had been working just fine until last Tuesday. And yes, I still got the "error loading operating system" message even after trying to install Windows 2000 on a brand new, never-been-opened, 120GB HDD. In fact, even using a fresh drive, the computer never made it into the GUI portion of the installation! Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted December 31, 2003 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 31, 2003 If you installed Win2k or WinXP on a partition bigger than 64 Gig that might cause this type of error. Have you ran www.memtest86.com on the memory to see if the memory will pass a test?
