Nightmare
I just got one of the AMD bundles with the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe Motherboard and the Athlon 64 3200+ chip. Spec: ASUS K8V SE Deluxe with 1.3 bios Athlon 64 3200+ CPU Corsair XMS 512 MB PC3500 (cmx512-3500c2pt) in Slot 1 (Blue) ATI AIW 9700 Pro Dual IDE HDD DVD-ROM and CW-RW Windows XP Pro with all windows updates Latest Chipset Drivers The ram has been running fine for about 1.5 years in my Abit NF7-S @ 2-3-3-6 and 400 Mhz I installed the ram into the new Mobo and with all the memory bios setting at "Auto" it did a continuous reboot just before the Win XP screen. I set the timings to: Ram Voltage: 2.7 Mem Mode: Limit Clock/CPU: 2:1 = 200 Mhz CAS: 2 tRCD: 4 tRAS: 7 tRP: 3 Everying else to "Auto" The system boots and I installed windows XP (2 times now). The system has been up and running for about 2 weeks at these settings and I have played countless hours of City of Heroes and a couple huors of DOOM 3. But as soon at I bump the Clock/CPU to 1:1 I get a "Registry File" error and random lockups. I even tried some slower timings like 3-4-4-8 and I get a bios "Overclock" Error at 2:1 and 1:1. I am currently running 2-4-4-8 (2:1) and everything is stable. I will try the 2.5-5-5-8 after this post. I called ASUS tech support and they were no help and told me to try Copsair. Can someone please tell me the "Magic" memory timing that will work with this Ram Chip? I don't even see the 3500 Chips on the Corsair site any more :/ Thank you Nightmare
Robolf
Try 2.5-3-3-6 2.7V if you use CPU-ID what does it show as the SPD information for the RAM in windows? Rob
Nightmare
2.5-5-5-8 @ 2.7v and 1:1 = Boot 2.5-5-5-8 @ 2.7v and 2:1 = Reg failure "One of the files containing the system's registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The recovery was successful" It gave me 2 of these popup windows 2.5-5-5-8 @ 2.7v and 1:1 = Boot with no Reg failure again. Here is the email from ASUS :) ID: 206811 User: @hotmail.com Date: 8/4/2004 1:34:00 PM Title: memory SOLUTION -------- try some other ram. Nice :sunglasse Nightmare
Robolf
have you tried memtest at 2:1? if it fails that re-seat the RAM. If all else fails try to borrow some other RAM. How old is the 3500? Did u get the SPD information yet? Post back Rob
Nightmare
CPU ID Memory Size: 512 MB Channel: Single Module: Corsair DDR-SDRAM PC3200 - 512 < Hmm? Freq: 100.1 Mhz FSB:DRAM: CPU/22 CAS: 2.5 RAS to CAS: 5 RAS Prech: 5 Cycle time: 8 Bank Cycle: 7 DRAM Idle: 16 Thats a neat little tool
Robolf
3200 is the nearest rated JEDEC speed so the SPD has to be programmed to it. right do the other things i said now :) Rob
Nightmare
No mem test, once I get that Reg error I seem to have lots of crashes. But I can try a memtest. I'll "reseat" the ram, but its been running for 2 weeks. I don't think that an issue :) If I can't get it to work today I'll pickup a new stick to test tomorrow. The only other stuff around here is 2700.
Robolf
download here http://www.memtest86.com/ and make a floppy just test the ram at the speed u can boot at for say 4 passes or overnight if more convenient Rob
Nightmare
Are there any tests I can run from CD? I didn't install a floppy  I guess I can pull one from another PC. Memory re-seated
Robolf
download the ISO further down and burn to CD then boot from CD. Rob
Robolf
another thing, in CPU ID can you tell me what bios version you are running? There is a beta 1004.006 so unless you are on 1003 or later try 1003 final or 1004.006 :-) Rob
Nightmare
I have the 1003, I might try the Beta is all else fails. Does the beta mention fixing memory>?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 4, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 4, 2004 Yes 1.004 Beta 4 fixed a detection issue with our LL modules! So I would suggest you try 1.004 Beta 4 at least!
Nightmare
And reset to "Auto" or ? It booted fine at 2.5-3-3-6 2:1 I finally got the Memtest CD burned correctly, I'll mess with that in a minute.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 4, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 4, 2004 Please make sure the modules are in slots 1-3 and set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and then set the timings to By SPD they should be detected correctly! Nightmare
Ok, Bios updated to 1004.006 Beta On the reboot, it reset the CMOS and I got a Checksum error I set everything to my last config: 2.5.3.3.7 2:1 2.7v And it booted fine. I don't see any "By Speed", is that the same as "Auto". I only have 1 Chip in Slot
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 5, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 5, 2004 What modules do you have, or what is the exact part#? And unless you have XMS3200C2 you should just load setup defaults and set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and every thing will be set!
Nightmare
My Specs are on Page 5 Corsair XMS 512 MB PC3500 (cmx512-3500c2pt) in Slot 1 (Blue) 2.5-5-5-8 2:1 (400 Mhz) and 2.7v I just ran Memtest it took just under 1 hours for 4 passes 4 Passes Test: STD Errors: 0 <none I reboot and remove the CD, I get the usual "Reg" error in windows. Its not totally unstable, I'm using the PC right now. But IE just crashed on me. Ramguy, what setting for the 3200C2 stuff?
Nightmare
OK, I think I'm done messing with this tonight: 2-3-3-7 (2:1) 400Mhz 2.7v = Reg error on Windows boot 2-3-3-7 (5:3) 333Mhz 2.7 v = Boot with no error Should I turn Bank Interleaving off if I only have 1 module? Its on "Auto" Does the setting for T2 command matter? Its on "Auto"
FireWorm71
umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't 3200 only supposed to run at 200 Mhz? And because of DDR it "runs" at 400 Mhz (200 Doubled as it's Double Data Rate)? Or am I totally wrong here?
Nightmare
The Hyper Transport makes it a little more complicated: On my Abit Mobo I ran my XP 2400+ @ 200 Mhz (Front Side Bus) x 11 = 2.2 Ghz or a 10% overclock I ran the Memory at 200 Mhz (equal to the FSB) and the DDR makes that 400 Mhz I don't exactly know the FSB and Hyper Transport are related on the Athlon 64 3200+ but CPUID shows: HTT 200.3 Mhz x 11 = 2208.8 and when I had the memory/CPU ratio set 1:1 is showed a speed of only 100 Mhz NOT 200 Mhz I am still running the memory at 157 Mhz or DDR 333 and I played Doom 3 for about 6 hours without any issues. Its running much better that with the 100 Mhz memory setting last night.

Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted August 5, 2004 Corsair Employee Share Posted August 5, 2004 I would suggest testing the modules one up on another system to be sure with www.memtest.org and if you find you have errors, please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! Nightmare
Ram Guy, why did you say "And unless you have XMS3200C2" ? I have : Corsair XMS 512 MB PC3500 (cmx512-3500c2pt) in Slot 1 (Blue) I ran the ram at 400 Mhz for 18 months, I think its just a setting. Or maybe the Mobo just doesn't like the XMS3500
Nightmare
Is anyone running this ram in their K8V Deluxe or SE Deluxe Motherboards? I used memtest at DDR400 and got 0 error in 4 passes. Ram Guy, why did you say "And unless you have XMS3200C2" ?
