Schnee
I´m wondering if the Threadripper compability thread is outdated. I was looking to buy 4x16gb DDR4 3200 mHZ for my threadripper, motherboard is a MSI X399 Gaming Pro Carbon AC (7B09-010R). It seems like there is no 16gb 3200 mHZ stick compatible, is this the case? I was going to order 4x CMU64GX4M4C3200C16R to have 64gb ram and 4 slots filled but can´t find the product number in the compability thread. I was also wondering if it´s better to have 8x8gb or 4x16gb, since I´ve read Threadripper uses quad channel memory, so I guess it´s better to use only 4? Input would be appriciated, thanks. Edit: just saw the mobo isn´t compatible with any 3200 mHZ 16gb sticks, I guess I have to get 8x8GB 3200 mhZ.
Corsair Employee Corsair Rick Posted July 10, 2018 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 10, 2018 Hello Schnee, In general, it is better to use less memory modules as it puts less strain on the memory controller. It's best to use a single kit of memory versus two. I would definitely suggest sticking with the Threadripper memory thread you are mentioning or your motherboard's memory QVL.
