Asus P9x79 Deluxe & Corsair Veng. Ram
Hello guys. Its my first post here. I have been reading multiple posts about asus mobos and certain ram being compatible or not. Im building a gaming machine with this board and ram.
When I go to Corsair and the memory selector, It gives me the ram compatible to this board. For some reason Asus's (QVL) list does not have any of these modules on there. Im wanting to use 16GB ram (4 x4GB). Another thing that stumps me is Asus recommendations are all DUAL channel and corsair is all QUAD channel. I am a somewhat tech savy pc person, but have been out of the loop for a long time.
Here is the qvl from asus:
CORSAIR HX3X12G1600C9(XMP) 12GB ( 6x 2GB ) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.6 ●
CORSAIR CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9(XMP) 16GB ( 4x 4GB ) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.5 ●
CORSAIR CMG4GX3M2A1600C6 4GB ( 2x 2GB ) DS - - 6-6-6-18 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMD4GX3M2B1600C8 4GB( 2x 2GB ) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMX4GX3M2A1600C8(XMP) 4GB( 2x 2GB ) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMP6GX3M3A1600C8(XMP) 6GB ( 3x 2GB ) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMP6GX3M3A1600C8(XMP) 6GB ( 3x 2GB ) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMX6GX3M3A1600C9(XMP) 6GB ( 3x 2GB ) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMX6GX3M3C1600C7(XMP) 6GB ( 3x 2GB ) DS - - 7-8-7-20 1.65 ●
CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8(XMP) 8GB ( 2x 4GB ) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.5 ●
CORSAIR CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9(XMP) 8GB ( 2x 4GB ) DS - - 9-9-9-24 1.5 ● ●
CORSAIR CMD8GX3M4A1600C8(XMP) 8GB(4 x 2GB) DS - - 8-8-8-24 1.65 ●
The 16gb kit is dual channel which Im not understaning. Wouldnt I want to use quad channel on a x79 platform? I also plan on using the 3820 cpu. Im actually up in the air about going with 3770k or 3820, not sure which platform would serve me better.
Here is what Corsair recommends in 16GB kits for the asus p9x79 deluxe board:
CMZ16GX3M4X1600C9G
CMZ16GX3M4X1866C9R
CMZ16GX3M4X1600C9
CML16GX3M4X1600C8
CMP16GX3M4X1866C9 Dominator series
I have noticed also people having to update their bios to reconize the memory, if thats the case, that doesnt bother me one bit. My main concern is my mainboard not jiving with the memory corsair recommends since it isnt on Asus's QVL.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dont worry it's like that all the time. They both do their own testing and ASUS usually does not update their QVL once they have done theirs. If it appears in either list then those kits have been tested with that specific MB .
Besides the Vengeance series was designed and tested specifically with that chipset, so any of them should work. Just keep in mind that the actual speed you may be able to achieve above 1600mhz will be CPU dependent.
When overclocing nothing is a given even though your MB may "support" higher frequency RAM
However you will want to stick with a Quad set and not two sets of dual channel RAm as that is not officially supported by Corsair because combining kits can be hit or miss and not always work. This is why there are more sets on the ASUS QVL than the Corsair site.

Thank you.
I do want to use the quad channel memory, I just couldn't understand why on earth only dual channel was recommended by Asus. I was honestly just going to go with what the Corsair memory finder told me. (1600mhz quad channel) I wont be doing any overclocking either, at least not right now. I want to get the system up and running with stock settings. Im assuming that it should run at 1600mhz correct?
Im hoping ill be ok with the 16gb kit (4x 4gb) quad channel stuff.
Quick question, I was thinking of going with the lower profile stuff if I get a large heatsink/fan combo. I like the blue low profile or the blue regular vengeance, but was wondering what the difference is between gold, black, blue, and red?

Yes and no! Yes they will run at 1600mhz, but no, not until you set them to.
When you first instal them they will register at default 1333mhz until you enable the XMP profile for 1600mhz. After that you should be good though.

thanks. Reason wondering, corsair recommends the gold, black, and red, but no blue. I just thought the blue would go with my motherboard better, thats all. Havent seen a white. hmm

The blues are the exact same memory . It's completely safe to use those too.
