TR3X6G1600C7D - Dominator or not?

Hi all.

I am building my new PC that is based on:

I7 950;

Asus p6t deluxe V2,

Asus nVidia x295,

PSU corsair - 850w.

I am not overclocking my PC and I run everything at their def. spec.

My DDR3 choice was Dominator 1600 - (2x6GB) - TR3X6G1600C8D - CL8.

Then CL7 version showed up and confused me a lot.

The new Corsair 1600 6GB TR3X6G1600C7D (CL7).

This model is marketed everywhere as a new and faster dominator model.

But is that true or does this just a XMS3 Classic model that has a Dominator heatsink?

I found one post about this but I couldn't understand.

As I said, I am not overclocking and I need a solid rock and ultra fast PC.

Thanks,

KraFT

Right now as per the Core i7 page, the triple packs are only coming in two varieties, normal and Dominator. So you can get the TR3X6G1600C7 pack if you want.

However, if you mean 12 GB total, get a 12 GB pack, not two 6 GB packs, e.g. HX3X12G1600C9 or HX3X12G1333C9.

I don't understand again and forgive me about this....

- Is this model (TR3X6G1600C7D) a Dominator or is it a XMS3 model with Dominator Heatsink ?

- Will I have a better performance if I get 12gb HX3X12G1600C9 vs 2 sets of TR3X6G1600C7/8 ?

I know that 2 x 6GB of TR3X6G1600C7D/8 are not officially tested, but I got the image that they are working fine without any problems at their rated speeds.

Thanks again,

K

Dominators ARE XMS3. Just better heat sinks.

TR3X6G1600C7 is the same part as TR3X6G1600C7D. Heat sink is the only difference.

HX3X12G1600C9 is guaranteed at 1600, whereas 2 packs aren't tested nor guaranteed at those speeds. It's possible, but if the ICs or PCBs are different between the packs, well that doesn't help compatibility.

Ultimately, why 12 GB?

What are the chances to get different ICs or PCBS when ordering at once from one place?

Why 12 GB? Well, lots of video editing, rendering, graphic design...

I was asked the same question here, 5 years ago. Why 2 GB? ( 4*512 for twinX 3200 )

It might be a lot now but I get what I need every 4 years. (1500eur - 2000eur max)

I dont want to upgrade and mess around in between ... Exept for the video card maybe ...

Thanks again for clarifications.

If you purchase two twin or Tri sets the chance of getting them to run at full speed at about 2 our of 50 will do it. And we would not guarantee it would work. I would suggest you purchase one of the 12 Gig Kits if you want 12 Gig of memory.

Model #TR3X6G1600C7D doesn't currently seem to appear anywhere on this site, but this version of Dominator series RAM is available at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B002EL4RNO/ref=ord_cart_shr?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance

I know I'm going back to the original question, but I just want to make sure this model actually exists. Tiger Direct lists it too:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4861109&CatId=4331

It does appear to be a legitimate model #, but it seemed odd that it's not listed here, so I'm checking on it.

ADDED: It's listed at Newegg as well, but it's also shown as not yet available:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145253

I'm guessing it's just a fairly new Dominator model # that hasn't made it onto the site yet?

I am purchasing the evga x58 sli classified board (Part #: 141-BL-E760-A1)

I am confused as to why this memory is not listed by the memory finder as recomended for the board I listed above instead of the C8 version and why this C7 is cheaper than the C8?

I would think with the lower timings it would be newer but that typically means more money. So why is the C7 so much cheaper? Just want to make sure I am getting the best between TR3X6G1600C8D and the TR3X6G1600C7D. Maybe it is just because they are different retailers but it just seems like a huge price drop for higher performance memory.

TR3X6G1600C7D is 7 7 7 20 for $208.99 USD http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=4307847

TR3X6G1600C8D is 8 8 8 24 for $230.99 USD http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-TR3X6G1600C7D-Dominator-PC3-12800-240-pin/dp/B002EL4RNO

On further searching I found the C7 memory grayed out as if it were older and discontinued for some reason here: http://www.corsair.com/products/corei7/default.aspx

It's only listed for 4 motherboards. Probably a mix up. I'll email the appropriate people to get it fixed. It's definitely compatible.

Both parts are the same price right now at NewEgg and a $4 difference between each other at Amazon. You're seeing the difference between the sites that's all.

No, grayed out because it doesn't have a data sheet (which they're no longer doing).

Hi,

I have the TR3X6G1600C7D with the Asus P6T Deluxe v2 motherboard and it's very unstable.

I can only get it to run without stability issues at 1066mhz.

1333mhz and 1600mhz is a guarantee BSOD and fail in MemTest86.

Would it make a difference if I was to change this for the TR3X6G1600C8D?

Thanks.
