Default Increase stability of OC:ed system by tweaking memory timings

Hi,

Is it possible to tweak the memory timings to get a stable system?

I have:
CPU: Core2Duo E6400
Motherboard: Asus P5B (vanilla)
Memory: Two sets,
-CORSAIR 2GB DDR2 XMS2 PC6400 800MHZ CL5 (2X1GB)
-CORSAIR 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC6400 800MHZ CL5 (2X2GB)

The system has been running fine with,
266x8 = 2.13Ghz and
memory at 800Hz (with SPD timings)
So basically all settings default.

Now in order to play some new games I want to OC a bit, Im aiming for:
400x8 = 3.2 Ghz
memory still at 800Hz
mvolt = 2.1
Settings wont post unless I apply timings I found here (Ram Guy post):
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=67451

All other settings default (as I remember).

The problem is the system is still not stable (can hardly start Windows) and because of the limitations of the P5B motherboard all Im left with is basically tweaking the memory timings. Is it possible to get better stability purely by tweaking these? How should I go about it?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Wizzadelic

What do you have the memory Voltage and NB Voltage set to? And have you tried setting the memory frequency to DDR667?

Hi,

Memory voltage is: 2.1V
There is no option to adjust NB or SB voltages on this board (Plain P5B).
In the OC:d version I've put it to DDR400 x 2 = 800Mhz, i.e. multiplier 1x
(this is the minimum setting, in non-OC:d ive put it at DDR400 x 2 = 800Mhz, i.e. multiplier 1.5x)

After browsing some I found a page explaining this was the fault of the chipset (or ASUS implementation of chipset) for the regular P5B.

Anyway, I've settled for 365Mhz x 8 = 2,9 Ghz which also is a good point considering temps and so on.

Thanks
