Cmxsd512-3200ll spd timings

Hello,

I will be purchasing a Sony Vaio laptop that has 2.5-3-3-7 pc2700 memory and I'm interested in upgrading the memory with Corsair's sodimm LL line. I have a few questions that I would appreciate answered. TIA.

1. If I replace all the oem memory with two sticks of Cmxsd512-2700ll, will the Vaio take advantage of the SPD timings of 2-3-2-6 or would I be stuck with 2.5-3-3-7?

2. For some reason, most e-tailers are charging $130-$140 for the 512MB 2700ll while the 3200ll is going for about $90. If I buy the 3200ll, is it compatible with the Vaio (VGN-S360), and if so what timings would it be operating on at DDR333?

A: Some OEM systems will ignore the timings, but most will set them properly or close to it. We have not tested this notebook so I cannot tell you for sure. But Sony notebooks are usually pretty good with their Bios.

A: Most likely not; most OEM systems do not have all of the info in the bios to decode a faster module’s SPD; DDR400 modules to run at DDR333. I agree with you, but I would not suggest it unless your reseller will let you return them if it does not work. But I would have to suggest you get PC-2700 version officially!
