Corsair Force 3 SSD problems

Recommended Posts

Hello Im new to the forums:).

Im having problems with my new Corsair force 3 SSD 120GB.

I bought a Asus G74SX and now im trying to use the SSD as main disk.

But when Im running the SSD disk it makes explorer.exe and alot other programs freeze.

In the windows logs it says that a application error happend. nothing more.

And It didnt freeze while I was running the orginal 750gb seagate 7200RPM HDD.

So im quite sure that it is the SSD.

Ive done some tested with HDtune and it doesnt seem to be any problems that way.

Would be very happy if someone could help me.

(have tried reinstall of w7)

from the thread "NOTE: This only works if you are using the Intel RST drivers. If you are using the default MS AHCI drivers, this will not work."

Im pretty sure Im using ACHI. were defualt when I checked.

Im not a computer technician, so some stuff is quite hard for me to do.

and its quite annoying how they advertise that "theres no problems installing our ssd, no tweaks needed"

But I will try the guide tomorrow I guess.

also, one more thing I would like to know. Why does my HWmonitor + hdtunepro say that my SSD is 128C hot? cant be right:P

Ingore this, the SMART data is not accurate on most SSDs. There is a sticky in the SSD section on this topic.

Also, switching from IDE to AHCI or AHCI to IDE can be problematic due to the drivers. There is a registry fix for this in the stickies which can be done manually or with a tool from Microsoft.

First of all, what is IRST? and no, I didn't. Will have a look into it right now

EDIT: ah, it's the driver.

Im quite sure im using ACHI driver atm. that's the only thing I find in bios so.

and cant change to IRST.

Should I "get" IRST? or how do I update ACHI

It is the driver for your SATA controller and should be installed.

This is the latest version:

Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) v10.6.0.1022

hmm. actually, the problem seems to be pretty much gone now.

However, when windows starts I get "explorer not responding" directly.

But after that the system seems to be running great.

any ideas how to remove the last error?

Its not like its that annoying. but would be nice.

Yes. when windows is almost fully loaded explorer stops responding, and restarts.

But after that It works awesome.

Graimer, no. I did the LPM fix before installing IRST.

which were quite stupid I guess.

Yes it was, but you could check the registry location where the keys go. Maybe their still there, og the irst setup removed them

Bleh. editing my last post.

Apparently my system still gets "explorer not responding" I guess I were lucky that it worked for as long as it did.

Graimer

The fix is still there. and I have installed IRST. so everything is as it should be?

Yes. If explorer is not responding that early, you should try a secure erase, and reinstall of windows before giving up.. Also, you might wanna try to change port and/or sata cable and see if it helps.

Well it is a laptop.

So changing any cables or whatsoever isnt a option.

I did a clean reinstall not so long ago, so everything is as it should be. (should be)

And I know it is the SSD causing problems.

Just one question. In bios I still use the "Sata configuration" ACHI is that how it should be?

I mean, I did install IRST so shouldnt I be using that? Dont know how this stuff work.

Is the first time I have to tweak anything at all with HDDs
