Mrpres
Hi I am after some advice. I currently have an x58 MB with i7920. I have 12GB of ram ( cmp12gx3m3a1600c9). I am being given a second hand asus p8p67 pro i5. It has 8GB of ram ( cmx8gx3m2a1600c9). My question is, can I mix the 2 sets of ram and make 16GB? If not then which set is better? Could I use 2 of the 3 modules of the cmp and maybe buy another 2 to increase to 16GB or do the need to be used as a 3 module kit? The Asus MB uses single or dual channel so I guess 3 modules is not a good option? Thanks in advance
Corsair Employee Corsair Rick Posted February 15, 2019 Corsair Employee Share Posted February 15, 2019 Hello Mrpres, Mixing any kit of memory with one another can cause stability issues, but not in most cases if they have the same specifications. For instance, 1600c9 for both of your kits. You definitely have the best chance of them working with one another, but the only real way to know it to test. Most motherboards that do not support triple channel will default to single channel if one of the pairs is missing (3 out of 4 DIMMs populated)
