Problem CMK16GX4M4A2666C15R with Ryzen 5

Hi,

I'm having trouble using my Corsair Vengeance LPX CMK16GX4M4A2666C15R 4x4 memory sticks with new B350 Ryzen 5 1600 system. Maybe some one has some experience with these sticks and can help me out.

Motherboard : B350 - f Strix Asus (newest bios), Ryzen 5 1600, Windows 10 Pro x64

If I use the default memory values: 15-17-17-35 2666MHz 1.2v the system randomly crashes with crashed BSOD. Yes, even the BSOD is messed up. Its random, sometimes it passes some tests, sometimes it just crashes at the same tests.

But when I changed memory speed to 2133MHz with same 1.2v and 15-17-17-35 the system passed RealBench 8h stress test.

Is these timings to much for ryzen? Should I increase memory voltage to 1.35v when using 2666MHz 15-17-17-35 ?

For the info these memory sticks worked fine with my old Intel i7 Z170 system. Love these low profile sticks.

-edit--

Tryed with 1.25v 2666MHz 15-15-15-35 (for some reason it shows that in bios but cpu z shows cl16 insted of 15) and It ran realbench for about 4h until the program dedected instability :(

Hey,

Any beta bios you could flash? Do you have the CPU OCed?

Asus B350-F Strix doesnt seem to have any beta bios available. I'm using the newest bios: Version 3803 2018/01/26.

The CPU is running at stock speeds.

Right now I'm testing the ram @ 2666MHz 16-18-18-35 1.25v and it passed 8h of RealBench.

When I was using these ram with Intel i7 6700k it ran fine @ 2666MHz 15-17-17-35 1.2v so it seems that Ryzen for some reason doesn't like this ram sticks at their default value.

From what I've seen lately, I'm willing to bet a newer bios will release and it would almost automagically fix the problem.

  • 1 month later...

Asus released new bios version for my B350 f Strix motherboard.

Version 3805

And it didn't fix the problem.

Now I can use 16-17-17-35 1.25v timings.

But when I try to run em @ 1.2v the system crashes right from the first test bench.

And for some reason the bios sets cl to 16 even when bios value is manually set to 15

So I ques I have to live with that. Asus itself claims that this model memory is compatible with this motherboard but as I c they clearly aren't.

It's not a big of a issue, I ques Ryzen is picky about memory.

--------------------------------------------------

Just little update, maybe its helpful for someone.

If you have these memory sticks that are version 4.23 and try to update to the new bios 4011 your out of luck. Btw the new memory support list wont display version number anymore (I think the old one had 4.25 is suported).

With newer 4011 bios the system is really unstable @ 2666MHz 1.25v 15-17-17-35. It will crash right when you try to boot. Going back, with the same settings, to 3805 bios version fixes this problem.

So in short: these ram sticks are a nightmare to use with B350 F gaming motherboard.
