It looks like there is now an update for some of the 60GB and 120GB LS's located in the download area.

Firmware

S9FM02.0

03/18/2015

To enhance stability and reliability of 60GB and 120GB variants of Force Series LS SSD, the latest firmware S9FM02.0 has been released. This update is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for existing customers who own one of those products with the specific serial number sequence.

I actually found it while searching for something else and doing a Google translate on a French site. I was unaware of the S8/S9 BOM differences before now. The substantial recent price drops now make sense to me. The upgrade resets most of the SMART counters which will cloud resale valuations.

This unedited information is from TousLesDrivers using Google translate:

FIRMWARE S9FM02.0 FOR SOME SSD CORSAIR FORCE SERIES LS

Corsair has quietly released a new firmware for SSD SATA 6 Gb / s entry-Force Series LS. According to the information accompanying the file, this version S9FM02.0 improves the stability and reliability of the SSD compared to the original version S9FM01.8. Corsair did not give further details. Note however that this update is only intended for SSD equipped with Phison PS3109-S9 controller found on Force LS a 60GB capacity ( CSSD-F60GBLS) and 120GB (CSSD-F120GBLS) and even a priori not every time since only a serial number range is concerned. The other Force Series LS 60/120 GB and the 240 GB models (CSSD-F120GBLS ) are themselves based on the controller Phison PS3108-S8 and therefore can not be updated with this S9FM02.0 firmware. Moreover, their latest firmware is S8FM07.9. After seeing past the waltz of flash memory chips in some manufacturers here we see that Corsair does not hesitate to outright replace two different controllers within the same reference product besides this is not irrelevant, S8 Pishon is more efficient than the Pishon S9 particular write (460 MB / s against 200 MB / s)! In short, remember to check that your SSD under the hood ... To perform the update, it is not possible to use the Toolbox Corsair unified software . We must instead download the utility dedicated Corsair Force Series LS Firmware Upgrade Tool, which is responsible for implementing the new S9FM02.0 firmware. However, it is very important to note that this is a destructive update(yes it still exists in 2015). All data stored on the SSD is lost after the update. It is therefore mandatory to clone the first SSD and then reimport the picture saved disk. Strength Serial Numbers Series LS compatible.
