Discrepancy Between Ver number and Memory IC's

This seems to apply to DDR4 modules, and specifically for the Vegeance series, although this may apply to other memory module series as well (yet to be checked).

The Ver number printed on module labels indicates (amongst other parameters) the memory IC manufacturer. However, it has been noticed that some Corsair memory modules have the incorrect Ver numbers printed on module labels, in that the Ver number does NOT correspond with the actual manufacturer of the memory chips used within modules.

The commonly noticed Ver number printed seems to be 4.31 (which indicates Samsung memory chips), but in many cases the actual memory chips used within modules are from different manufacturers. In which case the Ver number printed should be different from 4.31 to indicate the correct memory IC manufacturer.

Why is the wrong Ver number being printed on (some) module labels?

[Presumably this is an error. But could it (also) be some marketing gimmick to disguise the real manufacturer of memory IC's?]

It happened to me as well serveral times now. Normally I would give Corsair the benefit of the doubt and call it accidential mislabeling, it is however noticeable that the issue seems to come up quite a bit with Ver4.31 based kits (the version for the sought after Samsung 8Gbit B-Die ICs).

If you are looking for very specific ICs you might be better of with sticking to certain models or specifications that are known to exclusively use that type of IC instead of gambling with lower specced parts and cherry picking by Ver number.

Comments noted, thanks.

But it would be good to get some comments from an official Corsair representative regarding this issue.

Corsair?

Sorry to have kept you waiting, could you write out the specific question/s here?
