Just picked up the New DARK CORE mouse..it's got issues!

So I really like this mouse so far but dang the software is terrible!

First off it keeps telling me I have a firmware upgrade but it won’t upgrade. It starts to upgrade then disconnects from the software and never comes back. I thought maybe it’s just really slow so I let it go over night but sure enough same thing….needs to update but it won’t.

And seriously what’s with the terrible button assigning process? I still haven’t figured it out and I even watched videos on youtube for other mice that use the same software. But it’s different with this mouse…there is no “save” button on the bottom right side of the screen after creating an “action”.

I even completely uninstalled the software suite (I use it for my Corsair headset as well) and reinstalled it but still have the same issue.

So….any help would be great.

CUE 2 uses an auto save procedure. You don't need to actively save it. You can undo what you have done by hitting revert, right until you go to a different menu within CUE. The key binds should save automatically, unless you force quit the app immediately after doing it.

Mine should be waiting for me when I get home tonight, so I can add more insight then.

I got it to update to version .33 (I think). The mouse got hung up at about 46%, so I forced stopped the update after around 10 minutes, then re-plugged the mouse back in. After that I forced another update and it posted.

For keybinding, you have to create a new profile. When you make a new profile, in the bottom a section pops up asking if it's a hardware or a software profile. I did hardware since I want everything saved to the mouse without the software running. After that I the first or second tab allows you to rebind the mouse buttons and save that profile to the mouse.

The issue I'm having is after saving the profile to my mouse and exiting the corsair software, hitting any re-mapping buttons only registers as a single quick press regardless of how long I hold the button for. I've created a support ticket for this issue since it's pretty big.

Have you been experiencing any cursor jumping with this mouse?

Thanks for the update. Yea I did have some jumping around last night but after I turned it off and back on it seemed to go away so I figured it was maybe something to do with the firmware that didn't go through or some little glitch.

Looks to me like Corsair didn't polish this too well before putting it out which is too bad honestly. What they deserve is for people to return the product. You just don't put out an unfinished product. Really aggravating because the mouse has a lot of potential. Very disappointing.

Yeah it's definitely a bummer. My Logitech g703 had a double-click issue, so I need to send it back. I was hoping this mouse would fill the G703's shoes. but in its current state it's not ready for prime time.

Hopefully the jumping around won't happen again. Hope they jump on fixes really quick or this will be going back.

Do you by chance have the Action set to Text or Macro? Also, if it is on remap key, do you have "Imitate holding key" checked?

Is the mouse connected through the dongle or paired over bluetooth to your system? If bluetooth, do you have multiple devices connected?

I have the key function set to 'Keystroke', so there's no area within that section to designate a hold. Also as I stated earlier, everything works as intended with the app open - it's only when I close it that it stops functioning as it should (acting as one quick key press).

It's connected via dongle.

Any tips on getting the firmware to go through?

Was able to update the firmware after a few attempts. There are other problems.

1.After dark core is awaken from sleep mode it stops responding or doesn't load the default profile i have to manually close CUE software and restart it in order for the profile to load.

2.At times i get input lag and the receiver is 2 inches away from the mouse.

3.The mouse doesn't turn off the rgb light when it is charging the thing will keep going until you unplug it.

4.Constantly loosing connection with the bundle.

For the premium price that Corsair charges maybe these things should have been resolved before the product was released. The design of the mouse is great but wont deal with the nonsense for too long.

In order to update the firmware. Click on the update the firmware while the mouse is not plugged in to the pc .It will give you a message in red letters that you need to plug in your mouse. Then connect the mouse to your pc with the cable provided and then click update again. That worked for me.

So I want to give my opinion of this mouse after using it for a couple hours last night in games.

First off it feels decent in the hand…medium weight imo. I’m more of a palm grip person myself and imo that’s what it’s really built for. Glides well enough enough…no issues there.

Build quality is decent. I wasn’t blown out of the water but there is nothing wrong with it either. I think most mice feel somewhat cheap but it’s expected unless you want a heavy mouse.

Tracking is pretty good. I stick to about 5500 DPI and it performed well other than every now and then it would jump around. Didn’t happen often and seemed to correct itself by picking it up but it’s still a bit annoying.

The buttons are a mixed bag for me. Left and right clicks are fine and what you would expect. The middle wheel imo could use a little work. It’s a bit harder to press than I would prefer and it feels a loose to me as well. It’s not a deal breaker but I can’t say it’s my favorite either. Now the side buttons….personally I’m not crazy about the placement. To me they need to be pulled towards the back of the mouse more for my grip. I can’t reach the side button closest to the front of the mouse at all unfortunately. And if you were to keep your hand where you were able to reach all the buttons on the side then your finger on the wing/rest on the right side of the mouse would hang off. It’s really a strange design imo. As it is I’m able to keep my finger on the right attachment without it hanging off but can’t reach one of the buttons on the left side. I realize this is my personal grip and opinions will be a mixed bag here but that won’t change the fact that if you have a grip that reaches all the side buttons, the attachment / finger rest on the right side doesn’t really work well.

The lighting is nice…not much to say here really.

Can’t speak for the battery life yet as I have only used it for a couple hours.

Software is a mixed bag imo. At first I could not understand how to assign buttons but after a couple youtube videos I got it. I still think it’s a bit odd and not overly user friendly but after a little time it’s not terrible either.

So I still have not been able to get the firmware to update….not sure what that’s about.

So this I my personal conclusion of this mouse. It’s not bad but it’s not great either. I think better software may have helped me accept some of the issues that will probably be ironed out in time. But between mediocre mouse wheel, poor button placement, curser jumping and software issues it’s just a lost opportunity to pick up new fans for Corsair. They seem to really be trying to step up in the gaming peripherals department but this is just not how you do it. Go all in or get out because charging $80 for an unpolished mouse in this market just isn’t going to cut it.

I’m unsure if I’ll keep it at this point….I have a week or two before my deadline on returning it. Honestly that Logitech 903 is looking like the better option but I’ll give this one a bit more time first.

Again this is just my opinion…

And ^ is just the start. 2 Reviews so far with a 1/5 stars. And by the way neither of those are mine....I'll give it more time first.

Also both mentioned stuttering and losing a connection and I have not see that particular problem.

Sorry, a small snow storm delayed delivery and I am just getting it up and running. Yes, the firmware update was a little more stop and start than my other Corsair mice. The first 85% took about 30 seconds. The last 15% took almost 2 minutes, however it was successful and the lighting kicked on just past 85%. You need the cable plugged in for most serious changes in CUE.

I am not noticing anything out of the ordinary with re-assigning buttons to the mouse. It is typical of other Corsair mice with on-board memory, but if this is your first one, there is some adjustment. The onboard profiles are labeled in CUE as Dark Core RGB HW1, HW2, HW3. In order to affect changes to profile while using it in wireless bluetooth mode, you must save these to the mouse with your changes. With the mouse plugged in, it works like any other mouse and follows CUE commands. In 2.4GHz wireless mode, it acts like it is plugged in and will follow CUE commands in the assigned or current profile.

The strange part is the behavior when connected via Bluetooth. First, the Dark Core disappears from CUE and reverts to hardware mode. It is connected properly via bluetooth and is responsive. However, in games the cursor action is slow and choppy. It may be the polling rate iis reduced to conserve battery, but when connected via 2.4GHZ, this does not happen and it resembles the wired performance. My distance between mouse and Bluetooth antennae (it is standalone external) is about 36 inches. That should not be an issue and no other Bluetooth devices were active at that time. When in 2.4GHz mode, the Dark Core shows in CUE and behaves normally. I don't want to make any assumptions until I have had more time to experiment, but for now I will use the 2.4Ghz mode. I haven't used a wireless in a while. It is nice to be free from the tether on this MM800.

I just bought my Dark Core mouse and went to do the update but it never finished and after the first day of use my mouse no longer connects to the included Receiver, and the only way I can use the mouse is with the charging cable. I have had issues with corsair mice in the past but gave this one a try because it was a new wireless mouse (and it has rgb) but now the main reason I bought it for (the wireless) is not even working. I have tried to get it to work by uninstalling, or repairing CUE but at one point CUE showed that I had TWO separate Dark Core mice for some reason and I have not resolved the wireless issue. I may end up returning the mouse in the next few days, I had bought an extra in store warranty from where I picked it up at, so hopefully that'll help me a bit.

@c-attack

1ms with the dongle and 7ms on bluetooth

http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showpost.php?p=936837&postcount=5

@Alicization

Plug the dongle in and then re-pair the mouse.

Global Settings > Open Wireless Settings > Initiate.

Ah thank you, I am a noob at the CUE software but CUE was also showing two separate connections which I am guessing one was the receiver and the other was the mouse on wired connection, and I was able to Initiate on the device that wasn't connected rather than the one that was connected

@Alicization

That should not happen. Try reset CUE and see whether that helps.

Delete the CUE folder in %appdata%\Corsair\CUE

Note: It will delete all user created content e.g. Profiles, Actions, DPI settings, etc.

Taking it back today after work. Hopefully they clean it up but after fighting with firmware and the mouse jumping around on me last night I decided to just move on. I usually stick with Logitech but I'm always willing to give the underdog a chance. Just didn't work out this time.

Sorry to hear that you decided to return the mouse. From your experience, when did you experience the jumping? Was it during consistent usage like playing a game, or was it when the mouse was idle?

When you move it on desk top it will sometimes flip out and the curser will be stuck to the top of the screen. If you pick the mouse up for a few seconds and set it back down it will go back to normal. Also in games it creates a bad stutter and makes games unplayable. Seems like it’s disconnecting or something. Tried the dongle in different USBs with no luck.

I tried everything to get the firmware to go through. It never goes past 0% and then on the bottom left side I get a warning saying the update failed.

Hope that helps and good luck to you guys.

Thank you for the feedback. Any information you and the other users can provide is greatly appreciated. The new firmware that you were notified about in CUE helps enhance the user experience. We have actually written a How-To for the firmware update process on our new wireless devices since it is different than our wired versions. If you decide to re-consider the Dark Core, we're here and always taking feedback.

The link below is the How-To I mentioned in-case anyone else is experiencing behavior issues:

How are you guys doing on battery life? In 2.4Ghz mode, with sleep at 15 min, and power save off, I can't even make it through half a day before it wants me to charge it again. I am not even on the PC the entire time and it and the Dark Core is in sleep mode. How often do you need to charge? Edited by c-attack
